One more sign that demolition of the Marlboro Inn may be getting closer: electricity to the building was cut today.
According to Christina Mayer, who lives across Watchung Ave. in the house with the scarecrow, she saw PSE&G crews at the inn earlier today, and went to talk with them, discovering that the power was being cut to the building. Mayer says that the workers commented on the building's woodwork and were dismayed, when they arrived at the address given on their work order, to discover that it was the inn. "They were going on and on about how can they do this?"
The Montclair Times this week reported that the Essex County Construction Board of Appeals had ruled unanimously that Plofker should be allowed to demolish the property, despite a ruling by Montclair Township against him this summer.
Although Plofker has said that he's entertaining offers for the inn, Gordon Keil, who offered Plofker $2.5 million to buy the inn, said the developer not only had no interest, but lectured him on what a bad idea it was to keep the building an inn.
"He gave me the worst headache of my life," Keil said.
The Montclair Times has also reported that Plofker has purchased the Marlboro Inn's liquor license for $250,000.
Plofker was not available for comment.

Give me an effin' break!! "How can they do this??" C'mon! This is not the World Trade Center or the Louvre, for goodness sake. It's a building in disrepair whose day is over, plain and simple. Let the former owners move on with their life and good luck to whomever takes over.
