Nobody loses at yard sales. Here's the proof:
At our garage sale today on Carteret Street in Glen Ridge, we were selling a bright green sofa. All day long we kept pushing this sofa - but no takers. At 3:50 pm, we were sitting there looking at all the stuff we had to lug back inside, including the dreaded green sofa. Sprawled in chair, exhausted, I could barely move as I watched the field at Carteret Park empty after a girls' lacrosse game ended. Much to my surprise, a perky player from the visiting team (Sparta Spartans) came bounding across the street shouting "How much do you want for that sofa?!?"
Without skipping a beat, I barked "15 dollars!" The girl got even more excited. "15 dollars! Who here has 15 dollars? We need a sofa for our team room!!" And so within 5 minutes the deal was done - the sofa was loaded onto some parent's pickup truck and was on its way to Sparta High School. Here's a photo of the Sparta team rejoicing in the thrill of their found treasure. They lost to Glen Ridge, but won a sofa. Go Spartans!
Above from Jane He, who says "We're continuing our sale tomorrow - I think there's another game and we have a hot pink 1950's coffee table for sale, too." Let the games begin.
