Montclair’s newest home décor store, Rabbit Rabbit, is as intriguing as its name, with a wide-ranging collection of housewares and gifts, from gotta-have-it readymade silk draperies, a romantic "courting bench" (left) and our personal favorite, the urn and pedestal implanted with moss seed, so as you water your plants, the urn "grows" that centuries-old palatial look. Catherine Belisle and Donna Radcliffe are the friends, business partners and lovely local gals who had a vision to bring some unique home goods to Montclair and followed their dream. Although the store has been open for two weeks (with ample parking on the south side of the building), they have yet to announce their grand opening event – but you'll find out here on Baristanet. Meanwhile, one lucky Baristanet reader can score a $25 gift certificate, just by correctly answering the following trivia question...
In the John Updike's "Rabbit" books, Harry Angstrom's wife Janice leaves him for another man. What is the man's nationality?
By the way, if you’re wondering, as we were, what is the significance of Rabbit Rabbit – it’s an old French belief that if you say “rabbit rabbit” first thing when you wake up on the first of each month, you’ll have good luck for the entire month. If you forget, you get another chance – just say “tibbar tibbar” – (rabbit backwards) – last thing before you go to bed on the first of the month. If you go to Rabbit Rabbit, try saying "Barista Barista" and we're sure they'll treat you right.
