After a love letter about its new pizza oven by Montclair Times foodie Eric Levin, Leone’s Kitchen (the business, not the actual real estate), is up for sale, priced at $975,000. Some may remember a similar, mystery business (Italian with pizza oven) up for sale previously for $1,050,000. The current listing says "please don’t talk to staff." It looks like fans of Dmetris should go and eat now. Also for sale, the business described as "currently Dmetris through end of June," is listed for $179.000.

Anyone who pays that kind of money for just the business, deserves to go broke. Just like Mexicali Rose. Anyone want to buy a bridge?
What’s wrong with Mex. Rose? I haven’t been there for a long time – before it was sold.
Fans of Dmetris – he is opening another restaurant in Montclair so not to worry. Lots of movement in the restaurant world … opportunities abound … stay tuned
Having spent a week in Phoenix dining on Mexican food about every day, I dont know if I can ever bear to go back to Mexcali Rose!
I do like Leone’s though!

Oh am I jealous of you, butch. Never get tired of Mexican food and wish there was more of it (authentic, cheap, eat till you drop) version here.
Great Mexican at The Mojave Grill in Westfield…little more upscale than Mex Rose and in a different league taste and menu-wise.
On the rare occasion when I eat Mexican food, I like El Bandito’s in Orange. Outside of Mexico, they’re the only ones who know how to make a proper mole sauce.
For great Mexican, try the Rattlesnake Ranch in Denville. It’s not as far as it sounds – maybe 20-30 mins from here, depending on the traffic.
Last time we went to Leone’s, we were quite unhappy. The appetizers (calamari and portabella mushrooms) were much skimpier than usual– I think there was exactly one mushroom, for about $9. When we complained the owner argued with us about it, denied that the portions had shrunk, and then grudgingly gave us a little more of just one of the appetizers.
The food has always been good but not great there, and the service often awful. After the last experience, we vowed not to go back. Guess there won’t be a back to go to much longer.
I waitressed at Leone’s for a summer. The owner is awful. I will not be sad to see it go under new management (or hey, go under, PERIOD). And I can’t help but be curious as to what the “please don’t talk to staff” comment is about.
Late breaking post: So, who designed the lettering for Leone’s awning? Maybe someone with an aversion to non-slanted “O’s?” Maybe someone who was practicing for the Montclair Logo contest? If one “O” leans left, must the other — in politically correctaville — lean right? Does this qualify as a subversive conspiracy? Isn’t this much more important than the Michael Jackson verdict…
I waitressed at Leone’s for quite sometime and the owner Rose is beyond unpleasant. The food is great but the portions are completely too small for such an expense. I often was ashamed to serve such minuscule portions and when people complained the owner told me it was not her problem. She doesn’t pay 3/4 of the staff by the hour. She is also one of the most dishonest people you’ll ever meet. I’ve got some horror stories but I don’t think its necessary to share them… And as for the reason she doesn’t want the staff to be approached about it…She probably hasn’t told anyone about selling the place and plans on letting them become unemployed without notice.
I was planning a baby shower at Leone’s for my daughter-in-law but not being from the area, I had no idea it was in the process of being sold or that it had so much “bad press”. Can anyone suggest another restaurant that would be a good place to hold a baby shower for about 30 people on a sunday afternoon?
The reputation depends on the managemen.
