Skirts, Sales and Sweets

Monday, July 11, 2005

Oh, those lazy hazy crazy days of summer…..why not find a lovely overly air-conditioned store in which to spend some quality time – here are a few hot picks for this week, and yet another chance to WIN BIG --

Barista_shop_711_002 D’MONI is a welcome addition to Watchung Plaza, with mid-priced sportswear and those fabulous colorful tiered skirts that have become the “it” item of summer ’05.  (Note to the amply-hipped: proceed with caution.)   Watch for lots more designer labels such as Theory, Shoshana and  Sevens into the fall.

43 Watchung Plaza, Montclair

WIN BIG - ONE LUCKY BARISTANET READER will win a $20.00 gift certificate to this lovely store.  First to answer this trivia question takes it:

In what month and year did Nat King Cole’s Those Lazy-Hazy-Crazy Days of Summer reach #6 on the pop chart (its highest ranking)?

ALEX – is now on “double” sale, which is frankly the only time we even allow ourselves to take a tiny peek into this ultra-high-end designer showcase.  Items that were originally marked 30% down are now marked an additional 50% off of the sale price.  So if a perfect pair of capris were originally marked $200, they’d now be a mere $70.  (Why is it that we can do percent math regarding a sale instantaneously, but all other percents are like a foreign language??)

620 Valley Road, Upper Montclair

Barista_shop_711_001 Mixed reports on COLD STONE CREAMERY – ice cream A+, singing C.  We just don’t think of ourselves as in the heartland here – can we drop the hokey routine and just eat ice cream?  Seems like a tip disincentive program to us (they only break into song when someone throws some change into the tip jar).  But a certain someone was humming “I Love Waffle Cones – Put Another Tip in the Tipjar Baby….” all the way home.

Show me D'Moni...

"Those Lazy-Hazy-Crazy Days of Summer" became his last Top Ten hit in the summer of 1963." www.vh1.com, and they oughta know!

So, somwhere between June 21st and September 21st. I am going to say June 1963.

It was first charted in May 1963. Back in those days, strange things happened in the music industry, so I'll go with May 1963.

AND THE WINNER IS.....
VERVE!

The song charted #6 on May 11, 1963.
(In spring!)

Verve, I'll drop you a note offline with the logistics of your prize.

By the way, we always took issue with the lyrics -- if a day is lazy and hazy, is that really crazy? Perfect example of rhyme over content...

Congrats, Verve...although May 11 is technically not summer yet. I think Nat King Cole was trying to get us in the mood anyway.
