What Is It With the Name Christopher Green/e?

Thursday, July 14, 2005

A 41-year-old Montclair man named Christopher Greene was arrested yesterday afternoon in Brattleboro, Vermont after his mother found an assault weapon in their apartment and plans to go on a shooting spree there. Greene's mother brought the weapon to Montclair police station Tuesday afternoon. Greene, who went to school at Marlboro College near Brattleboro, appeared to be planning a series of sniper attacks like the ones in Virginia and Maryland in 2002, and also had plans of the Brattleboro Amtrak station. But he was believed to be a scouting mission because he didn't have a gun on him at the time of arrest. More details in the Ledger story here.

Believe_it_or_not When we read this story, the name Christopher Greene rang a bell, and sure enough it was a Christopher Green -- without the e at the end -- who shot up the Montclair Post Office on March 21, 1995. Four men died in that attack; one survived.

Yes, creepy coincidence. I believe the post office shooter is in Leavenworth for the rest of his natural life?

I think you're reaching on this one. Wildly overreaching, in fact. But I don't know quite to what purpose. Does it look to be a slow news day?

What struck me about Greene of both Montclair and Vermont is that, though he doesn't apparently wear glasses, he bears a certain strong resemblance to Bernie Goetz. (But then, so does my former brother-in-law.)

Overreaching? I don't think so. The Little Green/e Men have been in our midst for many years -- waiting, plotting, and occasionally revealing themselves and attacking.

Have you ever noticed how many houses are painted Green/e? How many Green/e cars there are in Baristaville? How many Irish surnames?

A series of unlikely coincidences? Think again.

It seems to be a slow news day for a lot of posters, too. Albeit a witty one.

I loved the way his mother said that he suffers from psychological problems...Uhh....no shit, mom.

Well, at least she had the sense to do something before a tragedy occurred.

Green/e used to be my favorite color.

It's not easy being Green/e. Especially now, in the Green/e Mountain Stat/e.

Okay, I'll quit, now. No more vodka and Corn Flakes for breakfast...
