It's "bring a friend" day at Baristanet. In honor of our half million mark, feel free to speak your mind or prattle on about nothing important, but invite a friend to come play, too. Let's see some new screen names (and not just the ones you make up now and then). And if we are your dark, dirty little secret, we completely understand, too.

what, no one's jumping on this? I guess it's too nice of a day....

ok, I'll go: how 'bout those Red Sox??? maybe next year.

I like to prattle about nothingness because it irks our Mr. Serious, Lasermike026.

So, how 'bout them Giants!

SHAMELESS SELF PROMOTION: I draw caricatures at parties and I will come draw YOU AND YOUR BUDDIES / YOUR KIDS AND THEIR FRIENDS at your party! I charge $90 an hour, usually do a minimum of 2 hours therefore the people who say in the beginning of the party "oh I don't want one of those stupid things" and see other people's can get one drawn, because I'M AWESOME and they will want one after seeing the drawings. So email me if you're ever interested or if your friend wants to hire a guy dressed up like a power ranger for their kids party, say now, KATIE MANCINE will draw caricatures for much cheaper, is much more entertaining, and you get to keep the drawing! What are you going to do in a month with the memory of a scary guy dressed as a power ranger in your house? My email is katiemancine@yahoo.com AWESOME!

How about the Giants? Are they going to bounce back after this loss? What is really remarkable are those Colts. They killed the Rams yesterday, and it started out so badly for them. I wish we could trade Mannings.

I'd rather talk about Katie's art than football. I get enough sports talk at home from you-know-who! :-)

Katie: Do you have a web site?

The Broncos invade the Stadium Sunday and the G-Men will rock! We don't want Peyton, in every big game of his career he has come up short. Eli is the real deal.

As a loyal Bosox fan all I can say is "..we'll always have St. Louis!"

Now go you White Sox and reverse your own curse. This could be the beginning of the Sox Century. (Hope so - took damn near 100 years to win one the last time.)

I do but I don't have caricatures on it yet, but: http://stopkatie.com

and http://stopkatie.com/caricatures

will be where i put the drawings when i have time to get some samples drawn.

hey miss martta, do you know if mr. winkles? http://www.mrwinkle.com/

he's a crazy dog that's like, half teddy bear. or something. it's the most adoralbe thing. besides my dog.

I'd like to know if there is a reason that there are several different designs on Bloomfield police cars. It doesn't inspire confidence.

Off that tangent, does anyone else enjoy the muzak at the Quick Chek on Broad Street in Blmfld? It's an amazing variety and I wonder if they get it piped in. Guess this reveals that I'm in the Quick Chek too often : P

Miss M,
What is Art anyway? Is urinating on a cross Art? Is Thomas Kinkade Art...is Ansel Adams Art...is my 4 yr old niece's fingerpainting Art? I'm confused.

Never heard of Mr. Winkles. But I agree, he's not as cute as your dog! Here is the second love of my life, my god dog, Chief (a.k.a. Sir Labbalot), who lives with my family in Oregon, boo-hoo! Gonna try to get out there in the next few months.

Iceman:

Q: What do you can a guy who hangs on a wall?

A: Art

But seriously, I think it's all subjective.

can=call

Ooh, can I plug my boyfriend's website?

http://www.rsteviemoore.com/audio.html

Check it out for free downloads. He's a local legend, so they say.

Miss M,
Thanx, it all comes back to me in shades of mediocrity...like emptiness and harmony.

Bada Bing

Ohmigod, Krys! I lurve his stuff! I have some of his downloads on my computer. Tell him he's amazing and to keep writing music!

ALL MY DOGS! Two of them live with my parents in central jersey but they are still my dogs because I grew up with the one since I was in 4th grade (he's the one with no teeth) and the other one is THE BISC! AND THE MISTER!

Sorry to everyone who doesn't give a crap. Miss Martta you will spend hours on this looking up black labs and golden retrivers

"Miss Martta you will spend hours on this looking up black labs and golden retrievers."

Well, gee thanks, Katie, as if I needed another reason to be non-productive...LOL! :-)

Note to Krys: When my computer crashed in 2004, I lost my mp3 of "Ryman Auditorium." Does he have another? I don't mind paying for it. Thanks.

As long as we're plugging websites:

www.LGBTQMontclair.com (queer montclair!)

www.MontclairWear.com (Montclair gifts & more)

I just registered Chief on Dogster...thanks for sharing. Woof!

Krys, never noticed the police cars, but I know that whenever I go into Quick Chek I end up whistling whatever tune that's playing, so I guess you're right. Often 70s soul or funk, right?

Iceman:
Homeward Bound, Simon and Garfunkel.

Okay, I have to go to class. That sucks! I'm going to be video taped tonight and every Tuesday for the next few weeks giving practice arguments. Who wants to watch themselves on video? Not me, that's for sure.

Phooey, link didn't work. Here it is:

speaking of art, can anyone tell me how i get in touch with Roberto, he is an artist in this area and i know he used to do the montclair studio tours, i have seen him post things on here before and tried sending him an email but with no response. One of my friends and her boyfriend were very friendly with him but they moved out of the area and i hear that he always has cool people over his house. there was a party over the summer and Spencer Tunick, the nude photographer was there and rumor has it that Paris Hilton was there when they filmed Simple Life in essex county and Kelly Lynch the director. I know it sounds shollow but if these people are hanging in bloomfield i want to meet them :)

Miss Martta and kkkk-katie,

Meet Dash and Lilly, our German Shorthair Pointer Rescue companions (they came to us from German Shorthair Rescue- they are not rescue dogs per se)and yes they were named after Hammett and Hellman.

If you happen to order from Tinga Taqueria sometime this month, be sure to tip the delivery driver generously. He has to pay his rent soon.
Many delicious "thank you"s.

mmmm, tinga's

has anyone ever tried the sweet potato burrito. i'm always curious, but think it might be too sweet for full meal!

Butch --
a friend of mine orders it all the time. I had it and it is kinda sweet, though yummy.

Went to Cecil's last night and heard Joe Elefante's Big Band. First time there. It was great. They are there every Monday night. Two sets starting at 8. Any other jazz people on this thread?

"speaking of art, can anyone tell me how i get in touch with Roberto,"

I think he is my mom's neighbor!!

I've been sending so many people to this site, mainly for the food reviews. You guys (I don't even know who you are or how many of you there are) are doing a great servioce to this community.

On that note, I found a great Dominican place in Paterson that serves out of this world pork chops. Any leads to Dominican-run eateries in Bloomfield?

Donna: LOVE jazz. WBGO's my prime pick for radio. Been a member for ages. Used to haunt Trumpets (in a previous life). Sadly, no one else I know is interested and so I'm limited to my record collection and whatever's up on BGO. Would love to try Cecil's at some point. There's nothing like listening to live jazz - or any live music!

i listen to cd's all the time in my car but if i must listen to the radio it's wbgo. i love this guy, have no idea who he is, but i love when he goes, wbgo DOT COM! he's amazing. oh so is the music. it's a staple in any room with a radio in the art building of msu.

As much as I love WBGO, I have been a member for years as well, and even guest hosted once, I have to say that WKCR is where the purists go on a regular basis89.5 fm

Fanatical fans angry with the Umpire's calling of Sunday night's Cards/Astros game have been sending me hate mail because I have a story posted about the ump on one of my web sites.

I'll sure be glad when the White Sox take this series ;-)

Word on the street is the Glen Ridge High School class of 2006 theme is 'Was it Good for You?'
This brought about *much* discussion at a birthday dinner last night.

discuss amongst yourselves.

Donna,Katie,Karen and JMO,

I too am a jazz listener. Particularly enjoy piano and or guitar trios...types of music like Diana Krall, John Pizzarelli, can listen to Coltrane all day...does get any better than Mel Torme singing accompanied by George Shearing on the piano. Diana Krall has a Christmas album being released in November.

Iceman, Donna, Katie and all, I'm a huge jazz fan (kind of have to be if you're from NOLA), but mostly brass band jazz. We should all get in touch and do a few outings or get together. I have a semi-good collection of NOLA brass band music as well as the usual suspects (Ella, Louis, etc)... maybe we could have a listening party.

daniella,
i'm always good for a trip to hear jazz and here in the heart of Baristaville we have Trumpets and Cecil's.

>> Word on the street is the Glen Ridge High School class of 2006 theme is 'Was it Good for You?'

What is a "class theme"? I have never heard of this concept.

karen, katie, daniella, iceman, jmo and anyone else who likes jazz and would be interested in participating in "field trips", how can we set up to contact each other? web stuff is new to me but there must be a way to send a message to a like minded group.
Barista?

This is basically the choosing of a theme for the Project Graduation parties on graduation night. Recent themes were Pirates of the Caribbean and Mardi Gras. "Was it good for you?"doesn't seem to lend itself to an alcohol-free, drug free themed party.

"Shall we weigh along these streets
Young lions on the lam?
Are the signs you hid deep in your heart
All left on neon for them?
Who are foolish
Who are victim
Of the sailors and the ducky boys who would
Move into your eyes and lips and
Every tear
That falls down on the neighborhood now
I said "Bird, we just gotta tell them"
And they turn and ignore us
And the only heroes we got left
Are written right before us
And the only angel who sees us now
Watches through each other's eyes
And I can hear him
In every footstep's passing sigh
He goes crazy these nights
Watching heartbeats go by...
And they whisper ---
We belong together
We belong together" r.l. jones

those were the days

"...my friend we thought they'd never end
we'd sing and dance forever and a day.."

I should not have said "theme" but more the title for the yearbook. It's not the project graduation party theme because how exactly does one decorate in the vein of Was It Good For You? Two people in bed smoking a ciggarette? It's so hip to be young and overtly sexual (and unoriginal), isn't it?

Eugh. Just eugh.

Was it good for you? I'm surprised that one slipped passed the administration's radar. I bet there are a lot of Seniors getting a huge laugh out of that one.

Dana,
How was the wedding...was all of the shopping worth the effort?

does anyone know more about this?
i designed her logo/signs and business card and she didn't pay me either.

Ex-worker injured in attack near salon MONTCLAIR: A former employee looking to collect her last
paycheck wound up being assaulted outside the South Park Street salon, police
said yesterday.

The Thursday assault came after an argument and after gum was spit in the
victim's face, said Deputy Police Chief Roger Terry.

The victim's hand was cut with a pair of scissors and she was knocked to the
ground, injuring her back, police said.

The assailant -- identified as Afrodite Pelardis, 31, of Bloomfield -- was
arrested and charged with aggravated assault and possession of a weapon for
unlawful purposes, police said.

Bail was set at $1,000, police said.
