Do It For The Animals

Tuesday, January 24, 2006

Go ahead and buy that hunk of artisinal cheese, those Marconi almonds or a slab of Callebaut chocolate. If you do it today, you'll help cows, sheep and other farm animals as part of Global 5% day for the Animal Compassion Foundation. Shop at any Whole Foods today and 5% of sales will be be donated to help producers evolve their practices for raising farm animals naturally and humanely.

I Heart Whole Food -- except the parking lot/bumper cars

I anti-heart that expression!

I wonder if Whole Foods still trucks with Peter Singer?

Hey, Barista... any word on our long awaited West Orange Whole Foods?

So, are they still selling steaks, lamb chops, and other domestic animal parts? Nothing against it - I love red meat - but does anyone think this is a little like a Fur Salon donating part of its profit to buy spray paint for PETA? Or are they just hedging their bets?

West Orange WF - the word on the Avenue is that they ran into remodeling problems & the opening has been pushed back from March to July.

Not really, Conan. WF never proclaimed to be a vegetarian establishment, although lots of vegetarians and vegans shop there. Their big thing is "organically grown" or "raised." You pay more their meats and poultry but they contain no preservatives, growth hormones or antibiotics.

and, hopefully no madcow.

If they're grass-fed cows, that's virtually impossible, PAZ. Mad cow comes from feeding cows the remnants of dead cows, which is a strange diet since cows are vegetarians.

We've gotten so out of touch with real food in America, it's a darn shame. Everyone should read "Nutrition and Physical Degeneration" by Dr. Weston Price. He was a dentist who tarveled all over the world in the 1930s, examining people who ate a "native" diet of nature-based foods versus those more "civilized" peoples who dined on processed and refined foods. Guess which group had better health. Dr. Price was way ahead of his time.

Miss M,
how old was he and what caused his death?

Posted by The Iceman (8T) | January 24, 2006 9:19 PM

He died in 1948 at the age of 77. Not sure of cause of death.

what rot.

The average life expectancy of a white male born in 1930 was 59.12 years. In 2003 it was 75.4.

In which decade do you think more "processed" food was eaten?

Don't believe me, ROC. Read the book for yourself and make your own conclusion before you decide that it's "rot."
