A reader has just called to advise that at Penn Station, many Mid Town Direct trains are canceled. This update from NJ Transit:
Due to this morning’s power outage, we will need to operate a modified service this evening. All MidTOWN Direct service on the Morris & Essex lines and Montclair lines will operate to and from Hoboken throughout the evening. MidTOWN Direct service to and from Penn Station New York will resume tomorrow morning. PATH and NJT Bus will cross honor NJT Rail tickets/passes.
Hang in there, commuters!

It's a huge mess -- trains cancelled and all the NJ Transit Refugees are packing into the Port Authority. To make matters worse, Decamp drivers are furious because they can't get to Bellvue Plaza and other spots to drop off passengers and their routes are all screwed up because of the bike race!!
"Due to this morning’s power outage, we will need to operate a modified service this evening."
Ah, yes. The logic is impeccable.
Many morning trains that should have gone to NY Penn were diverted to Hoboken this morning. That left a shortage of trains and crews to originate trains from NY Penn tonight.
Only the electric locomotive pulled trains can run to NY Penn from MTC. The diesels and multiple unit electric trains can only go to Hoboken
If you aren't already, take advantage of their notify service. It has saved me many inconveniences.
