Baristanet readers, summer is a great time for outdoor shopping at yard/garage sales. After a trip to the farmer’s market, while on a bike ride, or before hunkering down at the pool, who doesn’t like to poke around other’s people’s stuff hunting for bargains or an incredible find that could land you a spot on Antique Road Show? As a summer treat to you, Baristanet starts a new Friday feature tomorrow “Treasure Hunts” where you can post information about your own garage/yard sale. Make it interesting, tell us what cool stuff you’ve got, where, when and why we should stop by. And please, only bona fide lawn covering, garage stuffed sale listings, through Labor Day. Click here for some tips to get your sale ready.

Barista-

As one of a pair of avid garage salers, I thank you for this addition!

In Keyport (the best town in the world, exit 117) they have an annual town wide yard sale. It's a day where everyone puts out all their crap and a ton of people come and rummage through it. You could either pay the small fee to get your house on a map that is handed out or not, either way people will stop by. I think Montclair should have something like this because everyone here is rich and I want their crap for cheap.

Katie,
It's not crap...it's used.

Saturday, June 3, we are having a yard sale at 499 Ridgewood Ave., Glen Ridge. In addition to kitchenware, accent furniture, and toys, you'll find greeting cards and other stationary and giftware samples (designed by me) at wholesale prices! Stock up on a year's worth of greeting cards, posters for children's rooms, gift bags, and more. We will donate 1/2 of the proceeds of the sale to the Ridgewood Avenue Auditorium.

I can't make out the signature at the bottom of that cartoon - who made this? Is it a local cartoonist?

katie, just cruise town on the Sunday nights that precede bulk pick-up Mondays (town's divided into 4 sections, one Monday per month, per section). You'll find that people who don't want to mess with yard sales (like me) sometimes throw out great stuff.

katie,

stuff for free

they post.

you respond.

you set up a time and place for pickup.

you pickup.

everyone is happy.

no wasting gas on driving around and the item doesn't go to the dump!

Appletony is right. You especially want to cruise towns like Essex Fells and Short Hills on their bulk trash days...nicer junk!

Appletony, We are no strangers to the Sunday evening Bulk Trash nights in Montclair, in fact, we're BFF. This weekend we picked up a sweet rusted headboard which we have no use for but it was nicey. Mark really wants a file cabinet but we didn't find one. Rich people are too lazy to donate I guess because a lot of things we find are still very useful.

Can anybody please tell me the bulk trash collection for Short Hills and Millburn? Thank you.

Can anybody please tell me the bulk trash collection schedule for Short Hills and Millburn? Thank you.
