New traffic signals are being installed at three intersections in Glen Ridge, as part of a state road improvement project. They’re not expected to go live until the end of the month. This picture, taken yesterday, is from the intersection of Bloomfield and Ridgewood Aves.

Glad to see the new lights going up on Park/Hillside and Bloomfield Ave. If they had done it sooner then maybe that lady who got hit last year might still be alive.

The Bloomfield and Ridgewood intersection is a nightmare. I saw a motorcyclist thrown from his bike there last year as he abruptly applied the brakes.
ROC – getting the hang of the POST button?

acutally Black Irish, it was the website that for some reason was duplicating posts.
althought i hit the post button once several of my posts came up twice and then i was dumped onto a “can’t find server page”.
    it was totally weird!

The new lights may turn into a cash cow for a small municipality with those cameras mounted above the lights.

    what cameras?

you mean the cameras that are not permitted by the current laws of the garden state?

I noticed the cameras too. I also noticed tha there will finally be WALK/DON’T WALK signs, something that has been sorely needed at the corner of Bloomfield and Ridgewood where it seems to be every child for himself despite 2 crossing guards every morning. I hope that they can programm those lights to be red all 4 ways for pedestrians when school is starting and letting out.

Madison had that feature, and had lights wait three seconds after red before the other one turned green.
Combined with enforcement, it’s made a world of difference

I always thought the cameras were to sense whether a car was at the light waiting, as an alternative to those wires that are laid right into the pavement…when I’ve noticed them, they seemed to be aimed on the left turn lane.

I like the fact that these fixtures are greenish and blend in with the surrounding foilage, reducing that austere, raw cast aluminium look, so common at most intersections.

Yes, it almost lulls you into forgetting about the cameras.

The GSP has cameras at the tollbooths to catch toll-cheats. If you obey the law you have nothing to fear.

The cameras are solely traffic-control devices. (And, yes, we have ways of making you talk. Don’t deny it. You are guilty.) They would never be used for any other purpose (love your green blouse) or invasion of your privacy, Ms. 874-33-0498. Trust us.
