Scrimmage!

zogsports%20football%20%282%29.jpg If you're in your 20's or 30's and are somewhat athletic, you may be interested in a new sports league coming to town. ZogSports, a social sports league with a strong charity component, was started in 2003 by Robert Herzog, who only survived September 11 because he was late for work. ZogSports moved into New Jersey earlier this year, starting in Hoboken and Jersey City, and has opened registration for its co-ed touch football league, to play on Saturdays this fall.

The league has a charming way of dividing itself into levels of competitiveness:

Players Division - Think you're a jock? This division will be competitive, but still fun.

Casual Division - Played before? Not a bad athlete? This is the happy middle ground.

Extremely Casual Division - this is the pure fun division. It's for you if you're looking more for the social than the competition or consider yourself a beginner at the organized game.

ZogSports has corporate sponsors, who donate prize money to charities selected by each team. (And it's not just winning on the field that counts. There are also prizes for "best drinking team.") Afterwards, as that prize suggests, everyone goes out to a bar and kicks back.

Looking for something a little more casual (or maybe you're over 40)? Try a new web-based service, also coming this fall to Montclair, which helps people arrange their own pick-up games in a variety of sports. It's call SportsVite and you can find it here.

And if your in your forties or fifties have another smoke and let the rotting begin!

This is not related, but what is up with the ugly blue color now on baristanet? Bring back the old site. This one is ugly!

Hail satan! Hail satan!

Feel free to email any questions to info@zogsportsnj.org. Hope to see you on the field this fall!

Someone finally said it---the white against the blue--makes me feel blind--and while I'm adding my 2 cents the links should be on the right...but who am I?

I looked this one up. It'll cost 12-person teams about $900-1000 to field a team. The rules also stipulate that 5 men and 3 women have to be on the field at any one time - let's see, that's tattler, lasermike. latebloomer. fussy hostess and four other liberals of assorted gender - and stipulate that it's both "no contact" and two-handed touch football (though how you can have the latter without some contact is beyond me, that reads like some of the posts that start things off here).

Are there enough people in Baristaville to launch this one? I wonder. And with no blocking? So it's all receivers and DB's?

Co-ed touch contact sport? Sounds like an orgy to me. Please, grab me. I like the picture of the guy in the middle - down in his low crouch - he's so serious. Are you serious?

Women interested in a co-ed touch football league? Only an advertising whiz kid could isolate and tap that market!!

Right ! White text on pale blue background is difficult to read.

You can organize your Zog team, or any league team, on Sportsvite.com. It's not just for pick-up games.
