If you're in your 20's or 30's and are somewhat athletic, you may be interested in a new sports league coming to town. ZogSports, a social sports league with a strong charity component, was started in 2003 by Robert Herzog, who only survived September 11 because he was late for work. ZogSports moved into New Jersey earlier this year, starting in Hoboken and Jersey City, and has opened registration for its co-ed touch football league, to play on Saturdays this fall.
The league has a charming way of dividing itself into levels of competitiveness:
Players Division - Think you're a jock? This division will be competitive, but still fun.Casual Division - Played before? Not a bad athlete? This is the happy middle ground.
Extremely Casual Division - this is the pure fun division. It's for you if you're looking more for the social than the competition or consider yourself a beginner at the organized game.
ZogSports has corporate sponsors, who donate prize money to charities selected by each team. (And it's not just winning on the field that counts. There are also prizes for "best drinking team.") Afterwards, as that prize suggests, everyone goes out to a bar and kicks back.
Looking for something a little more casual (or maybe you're over 40)? Try a new web-based service, also coming this fall to Montclair, which helps people arrange their own pick-up games in a variety of sports. It's call SportsVite and you can find it here.

And if your in your forties or fifties have another smoke and let the rotting begin!
