starseed.jpgBloomfield Center, the downtown that couldn't be rebuilt by eminent domain, at least not yet anyway, is showing some signs of lawyer-free gentrification. Now leaving the neighborhood, greasy spoon and coffee stop Giulinao's, on Washington St., which closes Wednesday. And coming in, right around the corner on Lackawanna Plaza: a new branch of Starseed Yoga in Montclair, which opens next week.

and directly ajacent to this building, one can still get a "massage" at lucky therapy. Just in case those bones are sore from too much stretching. How nice, one stop therapy as soon as I get off the train.

This is something I think I should feel strongly about. I know the man in the picture. I don't know who he is.

Is there a meeting of some kind to go to? I would like to know what type of events are involved regarding these types of things.

Is Lackawanna Plaza considered part of Bloomfield Center?

Giuliano's is closing? That's bad news. I stopped there on many a morning for a cup of coffee and a great fried egg sandwich.

I will miss the place and the people.

It's nice to see Starseed expanding. They are one of the better yoga outfits in Baristaville.

No. Lackawanna PLAZA isn't in Bloomfield... But Lackawanna PLACE is.

It's going to take time, but the center is slowly emerging. We've got a few good places to eat now - the new State Street Grill, Senorita's, Bloomfield Steak and Seafood (all have their own parking too)...and now there is another latin place next to Hathaway's that my guy has been raving about.

When people start to come to eat - they'll stay to shop. That is how it happened in Montclair. It would help if we'd give the building owners a chance to attract some new stores, instead of defending their property rights.

I live near here. The town is not called Lackawanna. This is something I am interested in. They changed the town name to Lackawanna. I don't know what Lackawanna is. They didn't change the town name to Lackawanna?

Donna, do you know Norbert? He doesn't live in Lackawanna either. You'd like each other just fine. Wink wink.

"Donna Q average Bloomfielder who attended a party in the country last night and on the way home took a detour. Most of us on waking in the morning know exactly where we are; the rooster or the alarm clock brings us out of sleep into the familiar sights, sounds, aromas of home and the comfort of a routine day ahead. Not so with our friend Donna. This will be a day like none she has ever spent --- and she'll spend it, in the Twilight Zone."

All Bloomfield residents- there is a serious move to get a Trader Joes in Bloomfield. (again- they came here 3 years ago and couldn't find the right size of space) Please contact Trader Joes, the mayors office, any of the people on the board (their emails are listed) etc etc. The mayor has contacted Forest City again, (the development company?) We need to find out what kind size space Trader Joes is now looking for, and see if it can be found in Bloomfield.
This can happen. Anyone with connections/ideas should work on this. Or at least spread the word that it is wanted. It would obviously be used by everyone- and bring people into the town.

Is this Trader Joes / Bloomfield thing for real? If so we need to have a wider annoucement / forum than a an item on the blog - perhaps a blog item from the Barista herself. Bringing in a Trader Joes type establishment could be the tipping point for the non-eminent domain gentrification of Bfld.

Starseed...great, just great. At this rate, in 3006, Bloomfield's downtown will regenerate into a really nice place.

I agree -- one yoga joint and we are on our way to gentrification? Please. Downtown is a hole that is in need of a massive overhaul. What I don't understand is what makes people think these property owners will do anything now that they've won -- almost nothing has changed since I was a kid (except maybe the place has gotten seedier) and I don't see the next 30 years being any different.
