A marathon biking event has been underway since Tuesday morning in Montclair. Aspen East Fitness Center is sponsoring their second annual 101 Hours of Cycling to benefit Spina Bifida Research Resource. For the next three days, the public is invited to come take a ride on one of the eight spin bikes outside their shop. The idea is to keep the wheels turning for 101 consecutive hours, until noon, Saturday, September 23. Owner John McGowan says he'd really like to keep the seats warm through the night -- Baristaville insomniacs, this is an activity for you.

Besides feeling good about getting exercise outdoors, you can help raise funds by getting a sponsor, but it's not a requirement to come spin out. Aspen is offering incentives: free tees for all participants, and door prizes: certificates to local restaurants, and fitness rewards at Aspen. Last year the event raised $7,000. This year, John is hoping to reach $10,000. Spina Bifida expert, Dr. Laura Mitchell, will attend the culmination of the 101 hour ride on Saturday.
