Have You Seen These Birds?

Early this morning, hundreds of black birds swooped down and covered my backyard. I wasn’t the only one. A reader, who snapped this picture above, writes…

There are thousands of birds flocking in Bloomfield, off Bellevue Ave. going south?
The picture really doesn’t show how odd it was. A mail truck going by stopped, the mailman got out, and just stood and watched. bizarre! felt like the Hitchcock movie!

Do the birds know something we don’t?

they are starlings. Its normal migrating, feeding behavior for this time of yeah. amazing to watch, especially in huge flocks in the air. It looks more like a cloud then a flock. Amazing to watch.

    The birds do know something.
Taxes are less in the south, Woodman field is contaminated, Joe Hartnett is the king of Montclair, we pay to have our leaves taken away and then we pay to buy them back as compost, the township no longer collects the leaves from it’s trees and expects the citizens to clean the storm drains, iris hating kids are freed after their crimes only to attack humans next.

are the birds burning the house down?

I know that house. That’s the estate where Proud Montclairion lives! I can just make him out in the window. He seems to be wearing a smoking jacket, puffing on a pipe. Nice flag, PM, but you might try a little less bird feed.

I had those birds in my back and front yard in the Oakview section of Bloomfield at about 2:30 pm this afternoon.
    Who else has seen them?

These birds made a visit to our street. They covered about three yards on our street. I called my husband to come look, and in the 10 seconds it took him to get to the window they were gone…very strange.

I am renting a transport van to bring people to target @ 3am friday morning. I am making some beef goulash for everyone to eat while we wait for the doors to open.
if women want to have sex with me in the van before the doors open, thats ok too because I am bringing a large box of condoms and an air mattress, along with the goulash.
Email me and I will pick you up between 2am-230am. I will not pick you up if you live in newark or irvington, sorry.

Was in Bloomfield today but didn’t see starlings (or cstarling). Did see a lot of these though, on the road not the yards. http://steelturman.typepad.com/photos/uncategorized/the_bird.JPG

The same thing happened to me last week, at the house where I nanny, on Union St. in Montclair.
I was washing a pot in the kitchen sink and yellow leaves were streaming by the window, when out of the corner of my eye, I noticed that the yellow stream had turned into a black stream. When I looked out, I saw that the front, back and side yard were totally covered with these birds. I mean, they were packed in at least three birds to every two square feet. They left as instantaneously as they came, but while they were there it was a spooky few minutes.
There were a lot of the black birds – I felt sure they were Grackles: bigger, with longer tails, and that oil-on-water rainbow – but there were some little brown birds mixed in.

I’ve seen these guys wheeling in the sky. I have also seen them (well, probably not the same ones) take over yards in my town in years gone by.
This afternoon a smaller flock of those smaller brown birds (they look like big fat sparrows, which may in fact be what they are) were methodically doing the grassy areas around the Art Museum & St. Luke’s Place. A bunch of them managed to crap on my car, dang the little buggers. I was glad that it rained afterwards.

They’re heading south for a warm holiday! They were in my neighborhood for about 15 minutes or so, and then they were ALL gone. Not a one left behind.

Perhaps they can’t afford the Sienna or they are doing some old-fashioned grassroots protesting of current energies in Montclair.
Or, are they forecasting an unexpected change–they could be an animal totem to those who were fortunate enough to see them.

The other morning I was outside and I heard a very loud constant noise—I followed the sound and saw what seemed like thousands of birds in my next door neighbor’s tree. I love birds—but this was a little scary because of the huge din and it reminded me of a scene from “The Birds”!

These birds created a huge black cloud moving up and down our street off of Wyoming in Maplewood. Creepy but cool.

My house is down here in “the hood” section of Baristaville – where most Barista’s do not venture often. But every year those birds flock to my oaks and backyard, and neighboring yards, in very precisely choreographed patterns. They also seem to only land on the ground if leaves are removed – So they can peck for worms/grubs?
It is a mesmerizing, and bone-chilling sight. I would love to learn what, when, where (do they migrate), and how they know or communicate to organize like this.

These black birds are here in Short Hills, NJ. They are looking for worms hidden under the fallen leaves.

You guys are not the only ones to see the Hitchcock birds! They were in WO last week. I drove down a street and the lots on all four corners were completely covered in black birds. When I approached they a lit to a low level and the sky was covered. It was exactly like the “Birds”. No one would believe it if they didn’t see it!
