First came the yellow postcard. Here's what it said (feel free to read in your best Tony Soprano)...
New Jerseyans Are Supposed To Take Care of Their OwnBob Menendez Betrayed Sam Alito
The mailer, from a Monmouth Beach-organization called the Filangieri Society for Justice and Good Government, states that 20% of New Jerseyans are Italian-American and that Menendez opposed every major Italian-American organization in New Jersey.
Then, I get the phone call...
Hi, It's Joe Piscopo. Yes, it's really me Joe Piscopo...[as if there are people who want to impersonate him...]I'm reaching out to all my Italian-American friends to ask them to vote for a good friend of the Italian-American comunity, Tom Kean.
At the end of the call...
Paid for by the Filangieri Society for Justice and Good Government.
Here are some reactions. So how effective is Italian guilt?
Then there's this...

I got a call from Joe too, but he simply told me that he was a democrat just like me but he wanted me to vote for Kean, Jr.
I got a call from Joe too, but he simply told me that he was a democrat just like me but he wanted me to know that he was voting for Kean, Jr. I didn't even know Joe was still alive.
I got as far as "Hi! It's me! Joe Piscopo!" and hung up.
I told Joe the babysitter had just left. And to cease dreaming of being Governor here. Or even of ever making a comeback.
I also gave him lasermikey's number.
I guess getting and paying Piscopo is to counter this
Republican Ad Disrespects Italian-Americans
by Steve Adubato, Ph.D.
Just when you thought the US Senate campaign in New Jersey couldn’t get any uglier or degrading, it exceeds our expectations.
When I first saw the TV ad with the cheesy looking guy in a fake alley-way in a leather jacket muttering, “We gotta problem . . . Bada bing, we're in it -- but deep.†I was thinking it was some sort of cheap commercial for a product I was sure I didn’t want to buy. But the 30-second spot, which is a bad “Sopranos†take off, was actually put out by a conservative political action committee taking a shot at incumbent U.S. Senator Bob Menendez (D-N.J.), and apparently trying to help Republican state Senator Tom Kean Jr..
I get Piscopo has to get money anyway he can. Babysitters can be expensive, & how many can he marry
I also got a call from Mario Andretti.
And, Menendez (or an org supporting him) got Mario Cuomo to call on his behalf.
Are non-Italians getting these calls too?
I got the non-Italian verson of the Joe Piscopo call myself. I guess the republicans must have figured out that I haven't a drop of Italian blood in me!
I got the Piscopo call, too, and my first reaction was how pathetic that Menendez can't even get support from his own party.
I also got a call from Menendez' daughter urging me to vote for her dad. Well, at least his family still loves him.
My message was "Hi, I'm Joe Piscopo. Yeah, the real one. The guy whose career crashed and burned about 25 years ago. The guy whose alleged comedy career was over during the Reagan Presidency. Yeah, that guy. Want to see my big arms (I spent 4 hours in the gym yesterday) or my Frank Sinatra impersonation? I used to be a star, I swear. Ask Eddie Murphy is he knows me."
I, too, hung up on Joe Piscopo. Bill Clinton called my mom over in Berkeley Heights last night. The campaigning tactics are getting tiresome but it's almost over and I have to say I'm more interested in these races, nationwide, than I have been in a long time. I don't want to incur any wrath but I have to say last week's NY Times editorial about Bush being divisive (re: Kerry's comments) was on the money.
I got a call from Benito Mussolini. Must be a real tight race
Bush Has Secret Plans For Surprise Forced Call Up of National Guard and Reserves
I got a call from Jimmy Smits, so maybe they are trying to figure out an angle based on our last names. Tiresome, indeed.
Steve Adubato shops at Whole Foods in West Orange.
Mikey, relax at least until late tomorrow night. And take that call from Pat Boone.
Saddam asked me to vote for the Democrats,
He said when the Democrats win, just before they cut and run, they were gonna throw me the key.
The Democrats told me they really didn't have a plan and they thought I would restore order better than they would.
They understand that I have the experience to gas my people.
So please vote Democrat, I want my country back.
Ask Eddie Murphy if he knows me.
Who is Eddie Murphy?
Who says the democrats don't have a plan?
It's either we win or you cheated.
"In an interview from her Capitol office, Pelosi characterized Tuesday's vote as a referendum on the war, shrugged off President Bush's efforts to make her liberalism a national issue, described the current GOP leadership as a 'freak show..'"
Hello, Pot? Meet Kettle.
Ah Pelosi comes out of her cocoon.
She will raise your taxes.
I have a nice property so I should give right?
8 trillion dollars of debt a conservative value? You decide.
Feed the Beast
I'm half Italian, so I'm going to split my vote - My Italian half will vote for Menendez, since that will help Italian American Pelosi become speaker. My Irish half will vote for Menendez because I like that he tried to stop that stupid guido Alito.
Hmmmm, conservative code?
John Kerry called me.
After he said hi, the phone went to static.
A voice came on and said sorry, he doesn't speak for us anymore.
But won't you vote for us anyway?
My call said "Hi. This is Yogi Berra. Menendez made too many wrong mistakes, so vote for kean."
"Ah Pelosi comes out of her cocoon.
She will raise your taxes. "
For all of the economically challenged conservatives out there, the current administration already raised your taxes by dramatically increasing government spending and the deficit.
Econ 101: Whenever the government runs a defict, it creates a future liability. This liability must be paid down, and taxes are the primary source of government income. Whether you pay it this year or next, your taxes already went up, Einstein. If Republicans are going to claim to be fiscal conservatives, they need to reign in spending. This administration is an abject failure with respect to fiscal restraint.
I got about 10 phone calls with recorded messages from the Menendez' team. Most of them with a recorded voice in Spanish...I found out if you press "0", the recording says that your phone number will be removed from their list. Well, guess it doesn't happen, because they keep caling and calling and calling. Who wants to listen to recorded messages? At least have a life person call. Then you can request immediately to have your number removed from their lists.
I got no calls from the Kean team.
>"I got a call from Benito Mussolini. Must be a real tight race"
Ha! thanks for my first good laugh of the day.
seriously, i am very concerned about the cost of this war and the fact that we are stuck there indefinitely. i really don't know how we are going to pay for this mess.
a vote for menendez is one for the legacy of williams & torricelli, which has caused many to get plan 'B' real estate in Fla. i'll vote Kean & get on a plane
the benito mussolini remark made me pass diet coke out my nose!
"Ah Pelosi comes out of her cocoon.
She will raise your taxes. "
And George W. Bush drinks the blood of puppies. Give me a break.
"And George W. Bush drinks the blood of puppies.."
Uh, that would be Barbara Boxer.
What's with Piscipo's Cyborg looking right eye ?
He was in a fight as a yout

but he lives in Montclair
T minus 36 hours and counting until the start of the Bush impeachment process....
Wait.
There is nothing like the blood of goat.
The meat is pretty good too.
I vote for the guy from Massachusetts who thinks the troops are dumb.
I've been in this hole at 15,000 fee for 4 years and they still haven't found me.
We offered the world....ORDER!
They told us to shove it.
They want to see our blood on our street.
They must pay.
Hows that for a headline dumbass.
" ..taxes are the primary source of government income. "
In a Democrat's mind taxes are Econ 101.
Give the money back to the people.
Tell you what all those in favor of new taxes just sign "Aye" at the end of their rant. Lets see a show of hands.
Michelle,
You're an idiot. They already had it.
I love you people.
T minus 35.5 hours and counting until the start of the Bush impeachment process....
To all you liberals out there.
One issue campaigns.
When will you learn.
Iraq will not win you this election.
Is that, like, Haiku or something?
"Iraq will not win you this election."
Wanna Bet ?
At least they are admitting that Iraq is a failure in a round about way.
This election will be lost by the Republicans because of Iraq (Bush, Rummy & big Dick), corruption (Duke Cunningham, Tom Delay), sex scandals (Foley), hypocrisy (all of them), wild spending (Bush hasn't vetoed anything) and their obsession with the personal lives of American citizens (Terri Schiavo). Is that enough issues for you?

That's way more than enough. Terri Schiavo was the deth blow, then they added the Gay scandals....

Lets not forget the 1800 that died in (Katrina).
And 18 killed in Iraq so far this month.
The Republicans admit they are breaking to law to stop people from voting
I got a call from Babs Bush. She said we should be thankful we're in Essex County, we're better off here and this is the best we can do.
T minus 34 hours and counting until the start of the Bush impeachment process....
You liberals keep it up. The evildoers will come to the US and take away all your freedom! I hope you know the Terrorist National Anthem because you'll be singing it...
...You mean sorta like the same way they're already singing the Iranian National Anthem in Southern Iraq thanks to Bush, Cheney and Rumsfeld ?
Saddam gives Bush a Plug
Conservative Boogey Man
Is your last name McCarthy?
"Lets not forget the 1800 that died in (Katrina)".
Yeah and School Bus Nagin was reelected.
More words of wit from the Dim Wit
T minus 32.5 hours and counting until the start of the Bush impeachment process....
Night Light Michelle,
How long before you pull out of Iraq?
Probably longer than it took Reagan to pull out of Lebanon, Sally.
Today's Editorial:
The New York Times called for the deferment of former Iraqi president Saddam Hussein's execution, saying Iraq had not received "full justice."
The newspaper, which is opposed to the death penalty, said Iraq not only needed to hold Saddam fully accountable for his atrocities but also to heal and educate the nation he "ruthlessly divided."
The editorial called for deferring the death penalty "long enough to allow the completion of a second trial,
KINDA SOUNDS LIKE DOUBLE JEOPARDY.
Translation hire a bunch of shrinks and social workers to "feel the Pain" of all Iraqi's so that no Iraqi would feel left out. Maybe prescribe some Ritalin or something.
Funny I don't think Iraqi's need someone to "EDUCATE" them on Saddam. Are they serious?
He throws people off of buildings with their hands tied.
He drill holes in peoples knee caps.
He rapes women and shoots her husband so that he is the last person the dead guy sees.
Torture is what these people do.
And you people want to educate and give them lawyers.
Nice
I know that this is along the lines of Rodney King's "can't we all just get along?", but seriously, folks: isn't it possible to lighten up on the epithets, accusations and insults? Your neighbors are not likely to be evil just because they have a different viewpoint. In Baristaville, chances are that your neighbors are decent, thoughtful and smart people -- even if they disagree with you.
Andrew DICE Clay woulda been betta
Oh, did we go to Iraq to protect the Iraqis from Sadam? That was very nice of us. I thought that we went in to protect the United States from The Terrorists(tm). If we are now in the business of Global Freedom(tm) why don't we help out the unfortunates in the Sudan, North Korea, Burma, Zimbabwe, Turkmenistan or any other totalitarian dictatorships?
Oops, forgot. They don't have anything that we want. And none of those dictators threatened our President's daddy.
This is what 6 years of dismissing your neighbor will get you... epithets, accusations and insults! Let's hope the next 2 years finds the folks who wanted to run things getting exactly what they asked for... in prison!
I find Menendez only somewhat more reassuring than Kean as a potential senator, and that's mostly just because he's a Democrat, and I can't stomach the idea of any more Republicans.
So I'm going keep my eye on the polls, and when I feel sure that Menendez is really in the lead, I am going to go and cast my vote for the candidate whose ideologies I actually agree with:
Greg Pason.
They make a commercial for Kean with some jerky actor trying to sound like a goomba but getting the accent all wrong. Talk about a negative stereotype!! Then they try to tell us to vote for Kean because Menendez doesn't support Italians??? Hell, at least he didn't insult us with that stupid tv spot!
Mario Andretti called me right after Joe Piscipo. And, yea, that was funny (It's really ME, Joe Piscopo.... )
Michael Steele, Republican African American Senate candidate in Maryland appeared on Fox News Sunday with Chris Wallace.
Wallace: He said, "Lieutenant governor, the Washington Post endorsed your opponent, Ben Cardin over the weekend. They had some very harsh words for you. The Post says that as lieutenant governor for the past four years you've had marginal influence.
STEELE: That is pitiful. It is absolutely pitiful and that's nothing more than what the Baltimore Sun said about me four years ago, that I'd bring nothing to the table but the color of my skin. They were just a little bit more sophisticated in their ignorance. My conversation with the editorial board didn't go the way they wanted it to go because I wouldn't kowtow and answer the questions the way they wanted me to answer them. I'm my own person. I don't care about the Washington Post. The Washington Post is not going to get me elected. The Washington Post is not going to prevent me from getting elected.
Speaking of SNL alums, I'm quite sure that I got a call from Chris Farley urging me to vote for Forchion. He says everybody needs to lighten up a little - or did he say "light up"? - either way, Forchion is just the man to take New Jersey higher.
Sounded like a cogent argument to me.
Chris Farley must've called you on Halloween...
Ms. Martta - Did you really believe Joe Piscopo when he said he was a Democrat, but voting for Kean? Guess you are not the brightest crayon in the box! Joe Piscopo is about as much democratic as GWB
You bet it's about the War on Terror!
Bill Clinton:
Gays in the military
John Kerry:
The troops are dumb... Murdering Iraqi women and children in the dead of night
Nancy Pelosi:
"This is a time when the Golden Rule really should be in affect. Do not do unto others, what you would not have them do unto your troops, your CIA agents, your people in the field.
Rant all you want, Sally.
After tomorrow night, we're in charge.
Rant all you want there, Sally.
After tomorrow night, the grownups will be back in charge and Dubya is finally gonna be put out to pasture.
Or should I say duck pond?
I got a call from lasermike. I ended up giving a few bucks towards the cure.
Liberals Don't Support The Advancement of All Colored People, what was the purpose of your post? It says nothing about Michael Steele as a candidate, just a meaningless rant against the Washington Post.
"'Ah Pelosi comes out of her cocoon.
She will raise your taxes.'
And George W. Bush drinks the blood of puppies. Give me a break."
*yawn* here's an idea, if you want "your country back" try a little less anonymous internet gossip and blather and little more elbow grease. As one lefty to others, I'm getting really sick of Baristaville's homogenous penchant for: "Save the children of Darfur! ...after I get my nails done."
I REFUSE to vote for any candidate who chooses to fill up home phone voice mail. I have 2 calls from Joe P, one from Bill Clinton and various others.
What/where do these morons gets the balls to introduce themselves within 48 hrs of the election but disregard any issues the other 51 weeks of the year?
