Today’s headline in the Star Ledger surprised us: Violent Crime Drops in Montclair. Maybe we’re too close to the police blotter, and still feeling the shock of Ralph Nicastro’s murder and reports of teens with guns. But as everyone knows, statistics don’t lie…
Violent crime — in particular robberies and aggravated assaults — fell by double-digits in 2006 compared with the previous year in Montclair, according to preliminary figures that will be reported to State Police later this year.
“Rapes, aggravated assaults, all the violent crimes are down,” Police Chief David Sabagh said.
Good news. However, incidences of walk-by sushi wanking have gone way up.

I thought that that was an incident of pulled pork
oossibly have gone down in 2006 when 100s of know-it-alls have assured Baristanet readers throughout the same period that gang members (particularly Bloods and Crips) have descended upon us in record numbers and are committing vicious crimes as fast as humaly possible? Particularly if you flash your cars’ brights back on them when they are out crusing looking to kill someone!!
These recent stats do not really mean much, as they can be teetered with and manipulated, not all crimes are reported, montclair still has major problems including gangs, and theft, these stats might have gone down a little due to property tax changes, still an interesting place to live
Does Annette suffer from penis envy?
I thought it was all those phony “Slomin’s Shield” signs they were selling at Stop & Shop.
violent crime in montclair down? And the beatings/robberies near Church Street, man killed on Park, man jumped on Elm by four thugs are WHAT? Petty crimes? please. It seems to be a cover up…keep that money in town!
When was Ralph Nicastro murdered??
