Dumped On Valentine's Day

Wednesday, February 14, 2007

You're not going to let an icy snow dump ruin your Valentine's day, are you? Are you taking a snuggle day? Building a fire and a good book sounds good too. Or are you up $#%@ creek, scrambling for childcare? Last minute shoppers may also have a problem today. Headline from the National Weather Service: TRAVEL IS STRONGLY DISCOURAGED. COMMERCE WILL LIKELY BE SEVERELY IMPACTED.

Keep up on the latest weather here.

And A&P on Valley Road, Montclair, was giving shoppers fair warning yesterday.

Tell us what you're doing, who's venturing out, and how the storm affected your Valentine's Day...

It's really ugly out there--raining ice. Yuk! I cancelled a doctor's appt. to stay in. No sense courting disaster. A roaring fire and a good book sound good!

Due to the weather, and it being Valentine's Day and all, I'm betting there will be a baby boom roughly around November 14th, 2007.

The Lord is telling us V-day is a bs holiday. Retailers rape us and so do restaurants. Now they will pay with the rapture!

Nature gave a great Valentine's Day present and the stalwart Hudson County Community College abided and closed today. I am probably happier than the students.

I am preparing holistic wellness workshops--my other life--and enjoying this day.

However, I would like the ice to abate so I can go to Church Street and visit Beans.

5 dollars for a rose! Ha Ha you are not selling many of those retailers!

Sometiems you have to adapt.
Had a quiet and memorable pre-Val dinner last night at Taj. Only 2 other couples shared the room the entire time we were there. Their gentle new age music balanced the snow falling on Bloomfield Ave. Then she baked an upside down cake to celebrate the Day.

Sometimes I wonder why i continue to come back when all I see are a bunch of flakes. Most readers above must be from montclair.

"Sometimes I wonder why i continue to come back when all I see are a bunch of flakes. Most readers above must be from montclair"

Dear mysterious person:

Please know that the very threat of you not returning to elate us with your comments strikes fear and dread into our hearts. The site would be a cold and barren wasteland without the powerful, warming sun of your personality and the spiritual nourishment it provides.

I am therefore humbly BEGGING you to at least consider returning here once and a while, to give us hope to care, to dream, to carry on. I fear we will not be able to endure your absence.

Please don't the sun go down on us. We need your strength, your vision...your you-ness.

Please.

Didn't have any plans anyway for tonight and the ice storm was the perfect excuse to take a day off to veg and snuggle up at home.

Valentine's Day is bull anyway.

Nah. My house is split between Bloomfield and Glen Ridge, and I've been making most of those jackass statements above.

Jesus. I hope not. I am here alone.

The Montclair bashing, more likely Montclair envy, in the comments on this site amuses me greatly.
Even better to note that some of our favorite cast of characters live nowhere in any of the Baristatowns.
We'll miss you here in Flake-ville if you don't come back. Really. We'll continue to be flaky and continue to love living here.

This morning i put on a big coat and hat and gloves, and walked to the train station like i always do, and the train came at 8:56 like it always does, and it was maybe 10 monutes late pulling into Penn Station in NY. and now i'm sitting in my office, as are most of the people i work with. Feels like just another day to me, except that I'll be ringing flowers and a gift home tonight.

I'm amazed. 2:40 in the afternoon and finally snow plows are going down Bloomfield Ave, for the first time!
