Think, create, learn, grow, play. the Adult School of Montclair is back to help us stretch our minds in different directions. Their new spring catalogue is out, with more than 200 classes, lectures, and trips. What's your pleasure? Juggling, English country or belly dancing? In search of spiritual cleansing? Try Kabbalah. You want to talk issues? Discuss literature, history, and global politics. New to the 'burbs and feeling disoriented? Sign up for "Grow a Green Thumb." There's even a class for tree huggers: Tree Centrics.

If you don't see it, you probably don't want to do it anyway. For information and registration, click here. Sign up early and often - classes fill up quickly. And if you have any favorites, tell us what you liked learning at ASM now.

Director Lisa Redburn tells us these classes are full:
Visit to Culinariane, Wine & Cheese, Indoor Tennis, Pilates, Beaded Ribbon Necklaces, Black & White Photo Workshop, Chocolate, Edit Your Wardrobe, Furniture Refinishing, Meze, Salsa, and the morning T'ai Chi.

New people and ideas are always welcome to join their planning for next fall's program. The first meeting is this Thursday, 2/15 at 7:30pm in the Montclair high school annex.

Will they be adding more Chocolate classes? I want to learn about chocolate and eat it as well. I would like to see how much I can fit in my mouth and wonder if the Chocolate class will address this.

I took 3 classes during the fall semester, they have my email and my address, and I only recieved a reminder last week for registration. I am a bit dissapointed that many of the classes are already full. What is this ticketmaster? How are these people signing up before I even get notification directly from the adult school?

If you carry the American Express Super Gold Titanium/Uranium-237 card, you were automatically signed up (and charged) for all the really cool courses, like the lunch at Culinariane (I mean, it's not like it's a restaurant or anything and you could just go there anyway). If you don't have this card and would like one, please visit www.conanscam.com and have your bank account and transit numbers ready. Operators are standing by. Thank you werry werry much.

I must ejaculate heartily about the edumicational oppurtunitys at ASM. I took Tree Centrics 101 last year and met a lotsa lonely housewives, you know what I mean? They learneded about trees and other naturalistic cunnilinguities, and I learned about when their husbands' trains showed up and how fast I can climb out a window.

Sign me up! I don't give a damn what course it is!

Proud Montclarity ought to teach a writing class. That was pretty funny.

The thing I like best about my experience with ASM is that there are no pesky textbooks or tests.

I signed up for the "Dinner at Mecxicali Rose" class last year. It was only $249.00. The teacher took my money and made sure I was seated before leaving, so as not to interfere with the experience. I then ordered some food and paid for it and left.

I feel I learned a lot about Mexican Culture that night, and saw a lot of indigenous Mexican peoples there in the back throwing out garbage and washing dishes. They were all very short and they all seemed to be laughing, and I thought 'what a rich and joyous culture they are from.'

This year I signed up for "Standing at the Bus Stop on Park Street" for $899 and look forward to it.

Thanks ASM

For those of you who wished (or expected) to get the Adult School catalog and didn't, we're sorry. Complain to your postal carrier! We pay to have them sent to all local residents, but apparently lots don't get delivered. You can pick one up at local libraries, or at our office in Montclair High School. Or let us know and we'll send you another.

Desdimona, you sound well qualified to teach a class on hanging out at barista and throwing eggs.
Have you ever actually taken a class at the Adult School?

Posted by Lisa | February 13, 2007 7:04 PM

Desdimona,

That was hiliarious.

While there may be some issues with the USPS delivery of catalog, the MAS has NO excuse--had they sent out a blast email in a timely fashion, people would have had the information. Between them and the Montclair Art Museum sending out details of an event TWO DAYS after it happens, one has to wonder where these folks find their marketing people.
