There was trouble again at a Montclair High sporting event last night. This report just came to us from Detective Lieutenant Carlucci at MPD.
February 28, around 9:30 p.m. Montclair High was playing West Orange High in a basketball game. There was a group of about 100 juveniles and adults outside and several small arguments began. At one point a larger fight erupted in which a 16 year old West Orange resident was attacked by several youths, one of them struck the victim over the head with a bottle. The victim was transported to Mountainside Hospital by the Montclair Ambulance Unit and was treated and released for minor abrasions. A witness recorded the incident on a cell phone. Based on the video the following persons were charged: Marquies Lindsey, 20, Nicholas Miller, 18, Robert Morton, 18, and a 17 year old Juvenile. All suspects are Montclair residents. All were charged with Aggravated Assault, Possession of a Weapon, Possession of a Weapon for Unlawful Purpose and Riot. All suspects are currently at large. Also found at the scene was a silver, Crossman Pellet Gun. Due to the size of the crowd and continuous fights, officers on scene dispersed OC in the direction of the fighting groups, which assisted in clearing the area.
We are trying to reach John Porcelli, Assistant Principal of Student Activities and Athletics to get more on this story.
