Rufus Caesar Needs Found His Mom And Dad

Rufus.jpg

From the folks who found "Rufus"...

People at a local carwash at Walnut Street found him one week ago. When I went to get my car washed yesterday, they told me they found him on Bloomfield with a flea collar on. He fetches, sits and is very friendly. I took him home but he doesn't get along with other males. The jury is out whether he likes females. He is neutered. This dog is someone's, but we aren't sure they are Barista readers. One friend is putting it on the Watercooler today and no results yet from PAWS. This dog is awesome and we want to place him immediately.

We're calling him Rufus and he was found one week ago trotting up Bloomfield Avenue. He is totally trained and a lovely dog. If the owner doesn't come forward, we'd love to place Rufus in a loving home. Could you send the word out?

UPDATE: Happy ending. Rufus, who turns out to actually be called Caesar, has been reunited with his owner.

Have you tried the Bloomfield shelter as well?

Awwwwwww!!!!!

Who's a gooboy, Rufus? Who's a gooboy?

Thank you so much for trying to help this dog find his owners. I volunteer at a shelter in South Jersey and want to tell you that it often takes MORE than 1 week or so for owners to find their dog.

PLEASE WAIT before trying to adopt him. You should post the information about the dog on www.Petfinder.com in "lost/found" and send your email to Bloomfield Animal Shelter here:
http://www.petfinder.com/shelters/NJ158.html

. Actually, sometimes it helps to contact shelters within a 15 mile radius because a dog can roam many miles from where he got lost.

Bloomfield's Animal Control contact info: Animal Control Services Division

One Municipal Plaza, Room 111

Bloomfield, NJ 07003
Phone: 973.680.4024
Fax: 973.680.4825

If you can't keep the dog in your home nor can you find someone who can, please consider asking the Bloomfield shelter to do so since it's important to give the owners several weeks, at least, to find their dog.

I realize this is a lot to ask of you, but as a dog lover yourself, you know how heart-breaking it can be to have lost your dog!

Bless you for all you're doing and hopefully someone on this blog can also help out.

Don't take him to Bloomfield whatever you do.

Take him to PAWS they don't euthanize except in extreme cases.

Posted by Anonymous | March 10, 2007 4:31 PM

If he was found in Montclair that's where he'd have to go. Bloomfield only takes from Bloomfield/Glen Ridge/Nutley/Caldwell.

Good luck to Rufus and God bless you for taking him in and trying so hard to find his people. He looks like a real sweetheart!

also - was scanner used to see if he has ID chip?

Posted by tlc | March 10, 2007 5:02 PM

We went to PAWS and Rufus has no chip. We took him to Olivia's Dog Grooming on Bellevue Avenue and they shined him up nicely. No listing in the Lost binder at PAWS. No response yet from Bloomfield. We are in the midst of placing him temporarily. We are not bringing him to PAWS, only to a warm and fuzzy dog-loving home. Also, we heard that some people recognized him from walks at Mills. Any leads would be appreciated!

That's great news!
You might also want to try posting the info on nj.com - it has forums for montclair, bloomfield, etc.

Very un-PC of you, Barista. Not all Rufuses have a mom and dad, you know.

Posted by Anonymous | March 10, 2007 6:45 PM

First of all, in my book Barista can do no wrong! Rufus--whose name is actually Caesar--was just reunited with his owners thanks to Debbie, Annette, Liz, et. al. Wow! Also, a great big thank you to Eric Clemonts and Eric Miller at Personal Touch Automotive Detailing on Walnut Street for finding and caring for the little guy for the week. And thanks to Olivia of Olivia Dog Grooming for grooming Caesar gratis and helping us in our quest to find the owner. A great success story! Thanks Barista!

A happy ending! I love it! How wonderful for Cesar/Rufus and for all of you who cared enough to take the little guy in and reunite him with his family!

No response yet from Bloomfield.

No surprise there!

Congratulations to everyone who helped Rufus and family become reunited.

The Montclair Times refused to post his picture or help because he is from Bloomfield.

He is still in our hearts.

I gotta put in a plug, here. Eric at Personal Touch Auto Detailing & I have know one & other since the mid seventies. Eric is one of the nicest people on earth! He does a car like nobody, and I MEAN NOBODY does! Everytime he turns out a car, it not ready for the street, it's ready for a car show. Nobody but he touchs my cars.
Take your car there for a wash or other services on the menu. No machines, hand washed and blown dry using nothing but air.
He deserves your patronage, he is next to the new house being built. A hard working honest man if ever there was...I was not one bit surprised at his involvement to assist. That's Eric!

Thank's to the Barista's for their help...and by the way...you are all pretty HOT..OUCH!

One of the most interesting parts of this whole saga is that the owner is not even a Barista reader. He stumbled upon the picture of his dog when he was surfing the web for information on when the Sopranos were going to film at Holstens. I asked him where he sent out information on his Dog Lost and he said he called all the vets in Bloomfield. Well I live in Montclair so I went to the police, PAWS and the dog groomers. I found out through this process how frustrating and sad it could be to lose your dog (with no collar or tags) in one town and, if the dog happens to stray to another town, your odds dramatically decrease in getting your dog back. But we are so gratified and thankful that we were able to return Caesar home. Thanks for all the support, Barista threaders!

Thanks for the tip...did you mean Hal's? I'm having trouble finding the number...

Purrfect ending to this story! I can now watch the world from the window in peace. Oh, yes, I do escape but only upstairs in my apartment building with my human.
People admire me and I go home. Isn't that what we males want anyway?

got it HAAL in Bloomfield..,Thanks again

"Don't take him to Bloomfield whatever you do.

Bloomfield doesn't euthanize!

Posted by Anonymous | March 11, 2007 10:37 AM

Bloomfield doesn't euthanize!

Bloomfield doesn't euthanize as frequently and without consideration as it used to years ago, but they will euthanize when necessary. It is a municipal shelter, not private. Sometimes space and lack of adoptability are a big consideration. It's a sad fact of shelter life. Too many homeless animals and not enough resources for them.

Animals continue to pay for human lack of responsibility.

SPAY AND NEUTER YOUR PETS! And for God's sake don't let them run loose!

"Woo hoo baristas! Well done". Posted by: woof March 10, 2007 11:43 PM

Congratulations Barista and to all who aided in Caesar making his way back home! This is another good reason why the shelter should be posting ALL the animals in their care on the shelter's PETFINDER WEB SITE. Lost animals will have broader exposure and a better chance of being found by their families.

Thanks Dog lover 4:08 PM, for the additional, useful information and good pointers!!

am an elderly resident on forest ave. last night i saw kids behaving awful like criminals and I would like to know where all the parents were while their teenagers were out by the hundreds loitering and being disorderly by drinking alcohol, smoking marijuana and hitting police cars with items while they ran. What is this coming to. You parents are an absolute disgrace. I hope your rotten scoundrels get sent to a juvenile detention center down Newark.

Bloomfield may not euthanize (much) but they also don't walk, feed or socialize the animals...or let them see a vet

Posted by Anonymous | March 11, 2007 4:16 PM

So,

how did Rufus get lost?

Posted by Anonymous | March 11, 2007 6:57 PM

why doesn't rufus have tags and why isn't rufus chipped?

Posted by You need to register and chip Rufus! | March 11, 2007 9:06 PM

Please register me and take me to the yearly chipping event at Monclair Feed and Pet.

I didn't like not being home it scared me.

aren't there penalties for not registering your dog in Montclair?

Posted by Anonymous | March 11, 2007 9:35 PM

Yes, there are penalties for "harboring" an un registered dog in Montclair

Posted by Anonymous | March 12, 2007 11:05 AM

Yes, but you can hire an undocumented worker and you'll just get a slap on the wrist.

Posted by Cheech | March 12, 2007 11:12 AM

"Yes, there are penalties for 'harboring' an un registered dog in Montclair."

I can see the headline in the NY Post now, "COLLARED!"

The doggie was not in residence in Montclair. No worries!

Posted by Former Keeper of Rufus aka Caesar | March 12, 2007 11:54 AM

He was in "residence" somewhere and should be registered.

Posted by Anonymous | March 12, 2007 2:07 PM

Poor poor Rufus! Does he have his shots?

Posted by Anonymous | March 13, 2007 3:42 AM

That's so great that the dog and owner were re-united. How did the dog become lost in the first place?

Posted by Cuddles | March 13, 2007 1:56 PM

We think he meandered off from his home. Older dogs get dementia and therefore disoriented at times. Since Caesar is quite old--12 years old, I think--this is probably what happened. he would never have wandered off normally; that's why he didn't have tags.
