Speak Now, or Forever Hold Your Peace

Sunday, March 11, 2007

The NJ Health Planning Board will hold a hearing Wednesday night at Glen Ridge High School on the proposed sale of Mountainside Hospital to Merit Health Systems. The hearing will be from 6 to 8 pm and members of the public who choose to speak will each have three minutes to address the ownership change.

Atlantic Health Systems chose the Kentucky-based for-profit hospital corporation in July, disappointing a local group, The Community Friends of Mountainside Hospital, which had hoped to keep the hospital in local hands.

My Ballot Box
Should the state approve the sale of Mountainside Hospital to Merit Health Systems?

Yes
No

Atlantic Health decided to sell the hospital because it was losing $1 million a month. Although many people disapprove of a for-profit takeover of Mountainside, it could be a property-tax windfall for Glen Ridge, where the hospital is located.

am an elderly resident on forest ave. last night i saw kids bheaving awful like criminals and I would like to know where all the parents were while their teenagers were out by the hundreds loitering and being disorderly by drinking alcohol, smoking marijuana and hitting police cars with items while they ran. What is this coming to. You parents are an absolute disgrace. I hope your rotten scoundrels get sent to a juvenile detention center down Newark.

dear elderly resident,

you need lessons in etiquette.

1. don't post the same post more than once

2. post it in an appropriate thread

3. learn some grammar

"awful like criminals" = incorrect use of awful

" I would like to know where all the parents were while their teenagers were out by the hundreds loitering and being disorderly by drinking alcohol, smoking marijuana and hitting police cars with items while they ran"

This says that the parents were the ones doing the running

Total disgrace. Kids these days, they just don't respect anything. Glen Ridge used to be nice but these hoodlums are coming into town. Send them to Newark! Rahway prison would be better.

This is pretty simple...if the hospital is losing 1 million a month, it's bound to eventually get shut down.
The only option, to keep it alive, is to sell it.
A For Profit institution does not want to to lose 1 million a month, so would likely go through the measures of making it profitable again.

As a former employee of Mountainside Hospital prior to Atlantic Health System. It was a great place to work. AHS ran it into the ground. They need a way out. Glen Ridge will benefit and maybe it will regain a better community status since they will be accountable.
