USA Today has a story that should sound familiar to Baristanet readers. Glen Ridge residents moving to Bloomfield after the kids graduate high school.
The exodus begins this time of year. The trend showed up in Glen Ridge two years ago on the front lawn of a seven-bedroom, five-bath, slate-roof Tudor, home to three graduating high school seniors. There were two signs: "Congratulations, Brad, Blane, Brittany!" and "For Sale."
I knew that anecdote sounded familiar -- because we wrote it up here.
Other families who've made the switch...
Last year, Jennie Ciappa-Ng sold her family's house and, like the Schulmans, moved over the line to Bloomfield. The tax savings — $22,000 on the old house vs. $6,000 on the new one — allowed her to trade an advertising job that required almost constant travel for a much less stressful one. Her son Ian recalls going off to college with a for-sale sign on the front lawn: "I was kinda upset," he says. "That was the only house I ever lived in. There were a lot of memories."
So who's moving and where? And do you want us to hype your house...

Another plan for the Schulman's is to have Andrew establish residency in CA so that he pays in-state tuition at UC-SD (tuition is $7,318 in-state, $25,485 out-of-state). The way to do this is to (1) delay admissions for 1 year (2) send junior to CA and have him get a job and apartment for 1 continuous year. That will save them $72K over 4 years.
