I'll admit, I'm a huge francophile, and having spent four years living in the City of Lights, just a whiff of camembert and bite of Balthazar's baguette gets me all nostalgic. So I started frequenting Montclair's French bistrot Epernay, about a year ago to satisfy my cravings for steak frites, frisee aux lardons, and cassoulet. That's about the same time it was sold to restaurateur Brian Martin, who beefed up the old menu, added a lunch menu, and brought in ebullient manager, Franco, to Baristaville. Besides enjoying every morsel, I love going there for late night dinners, catching up with Mr. Kitchen Confidential (Franco), and speaking French.
To celebrate the one-year anniversary, (of the new ownership, not my patronage) Franco is offering free dessert to our readers on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday nights at Epernay from now through the end of the month. All you have to do is tell them Baristanet sent you -- in your best French accent. Bon appetit!
