Do you like crave a cold one after a long run on a hot day?
Last year's successful Lager Run has moved from Montclair to the streets of Glen Ridge. This year's race, on Sunday, June 24, begins at 5:30 pm. Proceeds benefit the Glen Ridge Community Fund. Click here for the enrollment form.
The adult after-party, on Herman Street, is sponsored by the new owner of Fitzgerald's, the restaurant-formerly-know-as-Joseph's. Fitzgerald's is providing free food and two beers (adults only, of course) to runners after the race. Herman Street will be closed to traffic. Kids can get free sodas, food, and move over to Hurrell field for games and entertainment.
Fundraiser notwithstanding, we heard from one Herman Street resident who doesn't want beer on her block.
She writes:
This morning [Tuesday, June 19], the residents of Herman St found in their mailboxes an unsigned letter on GR Community Fund letterhead advising them that Herman Street will be the scene of a Block Party where beer will be given away to anyone over 21...Blocking the street for the race is fine. But 4 hours of Beerfest in my front yard, is just too much to presume!!!
"This is not an out-of-control beer party," says run organizer Dan Murphy.
There will be a police presence, and controls are in place to make sure no alcohol is served to minors.
"This is a fun, community event raising money for a good cause," Murphy added. He expects between 400 and 500 participants.
