Where In The World Is Mr. D'Angelo?

Monday, June 4, 2007

Commuters on the Montclair-Boonton line are missing Ricardo D'Angelo, an angel of a conductor.

Amy Gurowitz writes...

For anyone who takes the train that arrives at Penn at 8:30am (if it is not 10 minutes late!) you'll know Ricardo D'Angelo, the conductor who is tirelessly friendly, always polite and keeps the passengers fully informed about the reasons for all delays. He always apologized for lateness and remembered the names of everyone he stops to chat with.

It seems that there has been a change over and things aren't what they used to be with the new conductors.

Another rider says of D'Angelo: "He is tirelessly pleasant, apologetic for things that are never his fault and always says good morning. We want our conductor back!"

Do we need to start a button campaign or print T-shirts. What will it take to get D'Angelo back? We get answers from Penny Hackett-Basset at NJ Transit

Yes, we are well aware of Mr. D'Angelo and his model customer service -- we are very proud of all that he does for NJT and most importantly our riders. Currently he in on vacation, however, because of a change in schedule do to construction on our Gladstone Branch where we are suspending some of our rail service, there may be some changes in crew assignments. As an FYI, whenever there is a change to a schedule, there are often concurrent changes to crew assignments.

At this point, I don't know whether Mr. D'Angelo will continue to crew trains 6210, 6227, 6226, 6237, 250.

So who makes your commute better...

"So who makes your commute better?

Blue Mountain Coffee on the way in...

Fosters Oil can on the way home!

He wasn't wearing a baseball cap and rubbing red stuff off his hands the last time you saw him, was he?

I meant Blue Stone Coffee

This Montclair-Boonton listserve said he was back on the trains today.

Anyway, none of the conductors I deal with are bad (and most are pleasant).

"So who makes your commute better?

Ducalox

Ive never really encountered a "bad" conductor but none really ever talk to you. or ask how your weekend was. Most look miserable, yell into the PA system, and get annoyed at people who are first time riders and are not familiar with the line. Ricardo D'Angelo definately makes my commute better plus I always have a good book b/c I know I'm inevitabely going to be on the train for longer than I should be.

I miss NIK!

In addition to the conductors, the NJ Transit personnel who work at Penn Station in Newark are very friendly and helpful. Bill, who works at the information booth, really knows his stuff and is very courteous.

I agree, appletony, but there is one conductor--in his late 30s or 40, kind of skinny, blond, who always seems to need a shave and a night's sleep. He's one of the most miserable souls on the planet. This guy needs drugs in a bad way.

We should organize a Drugs for Conductors campaign.

Yeah Walleroo, that guy is a mess most mornings. He usually comes through the door and just barks "tickets" at everyone. He's a pretty sad sack.

Hmmm...I think I know that guy, too. Does than mean I'm on the same train with Walleroo?

My favorite conductor was Steve Price, a very literate conductor and gentleman of the old school. On the 8:50, back in the days when there was still a smoking car, we'd talk books, and his repertoire was laudable. He was also a mean son of a gun who refused to retire because his ex got half his pension in the divorce, and he would be danged if he was going to start paying her one second sooner than he had to. At odds with gentlemanliness, to be sure, but he was nonetheless a pleasure to know.

I talked to the conductor in question and there is a sad story that is the reason for his appearance. It seems 10 years ago he ate a block of goverment cheese and been constipated ever since.
