Tuesday, July 31, 2007

And now, in other skateboarding news, this just in from the Montclair police blotter...

Burglary: Occurred between 7:30 p.m. on the 28th & 8:30 a.m. on the 29th. Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective James Milano at 973-509-4726.

Adding a new level of "extreme" to extreme sports: Stealing your gear.

Here's hoping the cops can come up with some suspects.

$10.000 worth of clothing.MMMMM.Was a big truck parked outside as they were loading up? On Bloomfield av no one saw this truck be loaded? Maybe the police where chasing the 15 year old in the bank parking lot while this was happening. I woder if they were insured?? Very interesting

This is what happens when good kids dont get skateparks.

very sad. probably will be the next store to go down on bloomfield ave.

How the hell do you rob a store at 7:30 PM (broad daylight) and not get caught? I guess the bank next door is next. I thought smash and grab was only in the movies...

inside job?

Khan,

It says between 7:30pm and 8:30am the next day... I'm guessing that is the time between business hours.

More likely, the robbery took place in the middle of the night.

But, yeah, $10k worth of skate gear is a whole lot. Maybe U-Haul can check to see if anyone rented a truck at 8pm and had it back by the early morning. :-P

the break-in wasn't necessarily at 7:30 pm was sometime between 7:30 pm and 8:30 am (in other words, it happened some time overnight).

There is alot of that kind of traffic in front that store ( SUV's/Vans, etc. ) loading and unloading stuff all the time. So, it would be hard to tell if it's a legit drop off/pick up, or people robbing the place.

I live/work across the street from there...and, there are always people ( kids/young adults ) who gather on those steps, and hang out...many, are the skateboarders who go up and down Bloomfield Ave. at all hours of the day & night.

ps - look at the stairs, curbs, side of the building, and you'll see what happens to the area when people skate all over the place.

I wish I would have paid more attention that night, I may have seen the people who did this, but didn't think that was what was going on..Hope he has Ins.

If the robbers had tried to get away on a skaterboard through the bank parking lot, they would have been arrested immediatly.

On a related note, if you're looking for some good skate gear at rock bottom prices, check my new listings on e-bay and craigs list.

The police & tow truck woulda been right there, 1-2-3 had it been an Infiniti parked by an elderly man & his wife in a closed bank parking lot, right ?

Sandy,
There is no 1-2-3 about private property parking. Here's how it goes...first, the property owner notices the unlawfully parked car, then he must call the MPD to make a complaint and ask to have an officer come to the site of his property, then he has to wait with the unlawfully parked car until the police arrive. MPD does not make private property calls a priority, so if something else is going on, the property owner must wait until the officer arrives to ticket the car (which is mailed to the registered owner of unlawfully parked car). Once the unlawfully parked car is ticketed, the property owner calls the towing service. Then the tow truck has to be dispatched to the site of the unlawfully parked car. Once there, the tow truck operator has to get out all of his equipment to tow a car without keys. Hook up could take about 10-15 minutes. So, there you have it...no 1-2-3 about getting your car towed off of someone else's property. Can you say "entitlement"?

uh yeah a few things. 1, jrippity, if you open your mouth again i will shut it. 2, Spicoli shut your mouth. 3, montclairgirl thanks for wasting my time. and what im sure non of you know. t shirts go for about 35 dollars on average. now the robbers obviously didnt do this but they could have stole 285 t shirts. that could fit in the back of a pick up or suv. and since it wasnt 285 shirts since i went down and checked the damage, it was other things, slightly larger but costing twice as much so there is some logic for you. i love division east and i wont stand for anyone preaching against it

Mr DoOd. Do you want to find who did this? First principles, DoOd. Simplicity. Read Marcus Aurelius. Of each particular thing ask: what is it in itself? What is its nature? What does he do, this man you seek?

DoOd: He steals totally sweet gear...

No. That is incidental. What is the first and principal thing he does? What needs does he serve by stealing?

DoOd: Um, i dunno. Maybe his mom threw out all of his cool shit, or maybe he just needed some cabbage ...

No! He covets. That is his nature. And how do we begin to covet, DoOd? Do we seek out things to covet? Make an effort to answer now.

DoOd: Uhhhhhhhhhhhhh...

No. We begin by coveting what we see every day. Your thief is one of your punk friends.

I'm thinking DoOdie is one of these upstanding skateboarders we keep hearing about.

Have you ever seen the prices in that place? Ten grand won't buy you much more than a couple of t-shirts and a pair of shoes.

$35 for a T-SHIRT?????

Christ, I remember when part of the appeal of the punk lifestyle was it was easily obtainable for your average min wage slave to remain stylishly dressed (tattered jeans, a plain black t-shirt, and a pair of Chucks was my wardrobe of choice during the teen years). I don't think I had a single outfit that cost more than $50 that wasn't worn exclusively at weddings or funnerals.

Maybe you skater kids should consider going down a few blocks to Stomp 'n Sounds... for $5.00 more than you just spent on a t-shirt you can get your girlfriend a sexy goth-chick corset.

...mmmm... goth chicks in corsets....

/daydream

Well now that that skaterboy store has no merchandise to sell, maybe they can close it and put a Popeye's there.

Did I misread the sign, or is The Dining Room also closing?

DoOd404 Anyplace, anytime I would like to see you shut my mouth. Guaranteed, I am twice the size of you. You add nothing to this discussion because you berate people. Go to myspace and harass people.

My bad. But i think it's even a worse scenario if they did hit the place overnight. I drive past that store everyday at 4:50am on my way to the YMCA. There are always cops around. Nobody noticed a bunch of snot nosed kids runningout the store with $35 T shirts and dirt bikes? There are tenants across the street and above the store. The police department is like 2 blocks away. I know the 3 cops they have working nights can't be everywhere, but WTF?

$35 for a T-SHIRT?????

Yeah, that IS crackish. Unless the shirt will make you fly, or guarantee you will get laid daily. I work for a living, and I don't buy $35 T shirts. I guess it's true what they say abiout the pot being stronger than it was when I was a kid.
