From TreeHugger.com via EcoRealty:
Walk Score helps people find walkable places to live. It calculates the walkability of an address by locating nearby stores, restaurants, schools, parks, etc. All listings come directly from Google. Business owners can easily add updates.
So how walkable is it where you live? Walk Score “uses a patent-pending algorithm to calculate the walkability of an address based on:
* The distance to walkable locations near an address.
* Calculating a score for each of these locations.
* Combining these scores into one easy to read Walk Score.”
You type in your address and it puts it on a Google map and gives it a score. 70 to 90 is very walkable; 90 to a hundred is a walker’s paradise.
Go here and try it.

Pray tell us, Barista Dude, how walkable Baristaville is? How do we rate?
72 for my home. It seems the score is determined by how many store/place listings it can find, and not everything is listed, therefore the “real world” score would be higher.
77 for my address and the map doesn’t include the .5 mile walk to the Bloomfield Train Station .
Woo Hoo! 88! Living in the dumpster behind Charlie Brown’s is really starting to pay off!

69? You sure you went to the correct website Liz?
There’s an advantage to living in Montclair Center – score of 95. Which is good, because parking can be scarce… S.

Not quite paradise….85….
Interesting that instead of reporting Montclair Books as the bookstore nearby, I received Impact Ministries, although it will make no impact on me.
42 – but I ride my bike
Ok..a 98 out of 100,,,which is why I live where I do..right in the heart of it all.
Now, if we could only get those skateboarders to skate some place else, I’ll actually have a peaceful neighborhood.
the Iceman is currently hugging a palm tree at the playalinda resort in Aruba. I’m sitting on my 4th fl balcony overlooking the beautiful caribbean sea enjoying the local brew…Balashi…I don’t recommend it but I want to support the local economy. Ok boys and girls can u say “hot and humid’…where’s my beer

untrue- someone would be making a video or commercial
admit it!
I think walkscore.com’s “patent-pending” algorthims need some work. I live on Broad St less than a mile north of North Center, yet I rated only a dismal 38 on the walkability score. I think it should be much higher than that.
Part of the problem seems to be the thinness of their database of places one would walk to. It’s missing most of the businesses within walking distance of me.
Nice concept, but I take the results with a grain of salt.
GR south end, a lousy 52…but only .63 miles to “Titillations”…woo-hoo! (who knew?)
This is completely flawed. For example, “Drug Store” was listed as some dentist’s office despite the fact that I have a CVS about .5 miles away. My walk score was 40 for living close to north Bloomfield center which is full of restaurants, gas stations, NYC and Newark Penn bus stops, 1 mile from NJ Transit train stop at Grove, and the nonsense goes on and on. This score is unbelievably misleading. The website will continue to suck in accordance with the reliability of Google Maps to reflect an area properly.
