Swingin' In The Suburbs

Wednesday, August 22, 2007

Nutley's annual block party is swinging tomorrow night, and we're all invited. It's Swing Night, and that means you can party on Franklin Street Avenue, closed to traffic between Vreeland and High Streets. Local restaurants will have special menus and bring their tables outside; bands will be jammin' on two stages. The Infernos are scheduled to get the party started, Gerard Esposito will be crooning in his Martin/Sinatra style, and you'll also hear from Jersey Sound and Jimmy Callaghan's jazz friends from Vegas.

Last year's record turnout swelled the streets. Activities, food, fun - and the music, is all free. Thursday, 6-9 pm.

The main drag in Nutley is Franklin Avenue, not Franklin Street.

When we first started looking at houses in the burbs, we looked in Nutley w/ one realtor and in Montclair w/ another. When we told the Montclair realtor (who shall remain nameless) that we were looking in both places, and she said "Montclair has all kinds of people. Nutley has all kinds of Italian people." I always think of that now when I'm in Nutley.

I'm guessing (s)he couldn't get a date for the prom with or was made fun of by the popular girls in question (depending on the poster's gender)... possibly as recently as the last school year, if their posting style matching that of the other teens who occasionally post here is any indication.

VomitOnEssex, have you or one of your close friends been recently arrested for skateboarding in bank parking lots? Just remember: Emo bad, punk good, and nobody likes your stupid "That 70s Show" haircut.

i went to the nutley street fair last night with the family. 3 things were very noticeable:
1. there were almost more beer stands than people.
2. The number of teenagers there.
3. the infestation of fire-fly sized bugs that people were swatting out of the way all night.

But we had a good time, and my son liked the music. The cigar store was also a highlight; picked up some padrons and 858's.
