We hear that Chef Mike Carrino from Passionné just returned from a trip to Williamsburg, Virgina to cater for the likes of Bill Clinton, George Bush Sr. and Tony Blair (Dubya didn't show).
Margaret Thatcher and Sandra Day O'Connor were also on the guest list - but Mike didn't get any face time with the politicos. "It was fun helping out behind the scenes, in a chaotic kitchen. We made lots and lots of hors d'oeuvres - about 11,000 of them. They were not my recipes, unfortunately," says Carrino.
Carrino, a classically trained French chef, was called upon to help out as Chef de Cuisine for a political shindig celebrating the 400th anniversary of Jamestown, Virginia. He joined about 40 other chefs at The Lodge in Willliamsburg, preparing lunch and dinner for 600 on Monday and Tuesday.
Back in Baristaville, we had the pleasure of tasting Mike's new fall menu last Saturday night. To some, foie gras may be un-p.c., but I love it grilled and had to indulge at Passionné. The halibut in a red wine butter reduction was trés delicieux, and my dining companions raved about the duck roulade. Save room for dessert - an artistic swirly brown sugar cage over apple tart, or the molten chocolate cake...Like a trip to Paris, only cheaper.

I've featured Chef Michael on my cable show ( Inside Montclair ), many times over the years...he is most unique...and you can see him soon again in a future broadcast.
Congrats Chef..well done ( or very rare )
