It's not often that a jewelry display stops me in my tracks. But when passing the recently opened Mise-En-Scene on Valley Road (in the former Papeterie), not only did I stop to drool, I was sucked in. Owner Juliette Rutigiano is the silversmith and designer behind the modern collections of hand hammered "dapped disk" silver bling with names like Big Bang, Bundle, Satellite, and Armadillo. Her designs also incorporate semi-precious stones and fresh-water pearls.
Juliette started hitting the art show circuit with her own jewlery business five years ago. But she's always been passionate about jewelry... "At age six, when other kids were setting up lemonade stands, my sisters Jenna and Joanna and I were selling home-made beaded necklaces in front of our house."
The three sisters just opened their first store in Montclair, and in between customers, Juliette hammers and solders her creations behind the counter. She's also got some cool gifts for sale - hand made metal serving pieces, handbags, and retro bowls made from recycled LPs.
Mise-En-Scene's grand opening party/open house is next Saturday, October 13, 5-8 pm. But don't wait until then to check out this shop. Mention Baristanet when you drop in and you'll get a coupon for a free pair of matching beaded earrings with the purchase of any beaded necklace. 547 Valley Road, Montclair. 973-744-3977

I looked at her site and her jewelry designs are lovely!
I like their modern aesthetic. I like handcrafted objects, but sometimes they seem too "Michaels" and amateurish. These pieces could sit in the Moma museum shop.
