Pianist Terrence Wilson has already established his reputation as one of today's most gifted musicians at the age of 32, touring worldwide with top conductors and orchestras. Born in the Bronx, and a Montclair resident since 2002, he's performing in concert this Friday and Saturday evening with New Jersey Symphony Orchestra at NJPAC - on the program as a featured soloist premiering "Deus Ex Machina," by composer Michael Daugherty.
We spoke with Terrence after rehearsal today about the composition Deus Ex Machina, which he and NJSO co-commissioned. "Deus Ex Machina is a brilliantly orchestrated piece, with an imaginative start, a contemporary - at times jazzy feel - that is exciting and dramatic. It's a big show, that pushes the ear in a way that's exciting, engaging, and very accessible. It has everything - even a bit of humor. It'll appeal to anyone who can hear," says Terrence.
