The suspect -- Donald Algieri, of West Caldwell -- was arrested about 11 p.m. Tuesday and charged with 18 counts of criminal mischief, said Police Chief Charles Tubbs, but more charges might be filed stemming from incidents in Roseland, Caldwell and Verona.

Last week's spree of destruction tallied 32 rear windows in four towns, with damage estimated at $25,000 to $30,000, Tubbs said, resulting in an investigation by several law-enforcement agencies.

The suspect, accompanied by three other adults and a juvenile, was arrested during a motor-vehicle stop in Fairfield, which also assisted in the probe. "The investigation is still ongoing. We believe other people were involved," Tubbs said.
