Let’s make this New Year’s Eve one for the scrapbook. The digital online scrapbook that is. Baristanet now has its own Flickr photo-sharing group and our own photo editor, Frances Pelzman Liscio, who also caught this picture of a grasshopper celebrating New Year’s Eve. (In Photoshop, we think. And if not, we’ll have some of what she’s having.) And what better timing, a tipster who prefers to remain anonymous has already sent us a picture taken from his cellphone of the ball being tested this morning in Times Square!

liscio.jpgLiscio, by the way, is a well-known photographer of the punk rock scene and a former photo editor at Rolling Stone. Her work is currently on display at Parlor. Check our her website, “Punks and Roses,” here. The winner of our photo contest wins a Punks and Roses 2008 calendar from Fran. Please upload your photos to the Flickr Baristanet group, but if you can’t manage the technology send them to tips. And yes, we want to see it all: all the over-eating, over-drinking, balls dropping excess of this final night of 2007. And especially snaps of First Night! (iPhone users note: Join Flickr and can send your photos directly from your phone.)

That sounds like such a cool idea…I met Fran at the Opening of her show at Parlor, very cool work too, and used some of the footage for my cable show.
I’ll be out there tonight, covering First Night fun…which I’ve been doing for the last 12 years.
I cover the people, who attend the events, and those that helped worked on making it happen.
It should be a nice night tonight, and I’m sure there will be some cool / fun images I could capture, and send in to you folks.
To the Barista Family, and to All…Happy & Safe New Years.

Did she photoshop those phones to her ears?
    (Very busy, I get it….)

Okay, let’s see … here’s the one from ’92 of me in the hot tub with — uh, uh — that one’s no good. How about that one from ’99 of me cuffed in the back seat of the cruiser; well, no, that’s not very flattering. Is that me under the lampshade (again)? Do I still have the one of me irrigating the lamp post? No? (Good.) I do have a panoramic of Times Square taken way back in the ’70′s; I must be in there somewhere…unless I stayed downtown that evening. Oh, well, I guess I’ll just say the Hell with it. Never gonna get on Wayne’s show that way…

We will be in the Ironbound section of Newark this evening. I’ll see what I can come up with.

That is the very same fran (I’m fran dammit!) who posts here from time to time, I presume? Terrific. (Hello, fran dammit!) I’ll see what I can do, but no promises. Can four-legged mammals even join Flickr?

When I was a teenager back in the dark ages I thought the most romantic songs were "Don't Worry, Baby" and "God Only Knows" by the Beach Boys. But my romantic life back then was more in tune with "Love Stinks" by the J. Geils Band.
