Several tipsters alerted Baristanet to a distressing lawn sign spotted in the Oakview section of Bloomfield. It's a shout for help from the homeowner who says an intruder stole the family's three pet rabbits from their home. The rabbits are described as medium/large English mini-lops, with black and white fur.
"My kids are devastated. I'm numb, I'm exhausted," she told us. Thousands of commuters pass our street every day. I'm hoping someone who knows something will contact Bloomfield police immediately."
The pet owner says she started putting up signs on Friday. She's contacted animal shelters, vet offices, put an announcement on Craig's List, and even called local butchers. "I don't know what else to do," she says.
Bloomfield Police are investigating the matter, and the victim is not able to provide more information. Bloomfield Police has not yet returned our call. If you have information, please call BPD at 973- 680-4149.

I'd bring Glenn Close in for questioning right away.
This is simply saddening and despicable.
I don't know how anyone could steal someone's pets. This is just horrible.
Bizarre. Were they left outside in a pen? Or did the person actually break and enter to get them? Either way, it's hard to fathom.
barista- can you post a picture of mini-lops?
A few years ago, my wife thought our small dog had been 'dog-napped' from our back yard. When she told me "Burt is missing, I think someone took him", I felt an ice-pick of dread go right into my gut. She went off screaming down the street, "Buuurt!! , Buuurt!!" like some demented person. My pulse racing I did a thorough search of our outside property which turned up nothing. Getting a little desperate, I checked out house, and there he was, plopped down on the living room floor.
We were so RELIEVED! I never forget that moment of terror when we thought he had been snatched.
God help the person that took these pets.
My favorite rabbit story.
Family finds that their pet golden retriever has brought into their home the neighbor's rabbit. The rabbit is dirty. The rabbit is dead.
"Oh my God!" says the shocked family. "Rusty has killed our neighbor's pet rabbit."
They clean up the dead rabbit and put it back into it's pen on the neighbor's property.
Later that day, the bewildered neighbor comes over and says "The strangest thing has just happened. Our pet rabbit died yesterday and we buried him. Somehow he wound up back in his pen again. Did you see anyone on our property? Do you know anything about this?"
To their horror they realized in a flash that their dog must have dug up the dead rabbit and then brought it home. They played dumb and admitted nothing.
Mellon - thanks for the laughs in an otherwise sad post. Hope those bunnies are returned immediately.
(There aren't any coyotes in Oakview, are there? 'Cuz that's what usually happened to disappeared small outdoor fuzzies in So. Cal. - cage be darned.)
Elmer Fudd is the pimary suspect
Hare-brained thieves in Bloomfield.
I love the self made signs that people seem to be making now...

I have a feeling that those bunnies are already in India dying a quick natural death. They will soon be a set of cuelty-free earmuffs.
