UPDATE: And the Oscar did go to...
"Freeheld," a film about a New Jersey cop dying from cancer -- who tries to get her pension transferred to her same sex partner -- will be vying for an Oscar tonight in the Best Documentary Short Subject category.
Directed by Brooklyn filmmaker Cynthia Wade, Freeheld documents the struggle of Detective Laurel Hester, a 25 year veteran of the Ocean City Police Department, who battles with the Ocean County Freeholders, after they deny her request to leave pension benefits to her partner, Stacie Andree.
Read more about the film here, and watch the trailer here.
And if you want to see the film tonight, go to the Garden State Equality's Oscar Party, at the South Orange Performing Arts Center at 7 pm.

Wade did "Shelter Dogs" too, which was amazing, if not one of the most tear-inducing, films that I've ever seen.
Hooray -- they won!
They WON....fantastic!!
Liz..boy are you fast...what were you doing, sitting at the keyboard :) ?
yahoo!!!!!
Congratulations!
Ditto!
Was pretty happy with the overall results, with the exception of the actress for "La Vie en Rose" (her name escapes me, she's so inconsequential). Oscar for Best Actress should have gone to Ellen Page.
But I'm happy for the Coen Brothers!
Marion Cotillard did a fantastic job as Edith Piaf. She really looked and moved like her and that is such an achievement since without makeup she hardly resembles Edith.
as are you Miss Martta
Hey, it's my opinion: I think Cotillard is a mediocre actress. Can't believe she won an Oscar for that dreck. Ellen Page ("Juno"), basically a newcomer to Hollywood, was much more real and natural as an actress.
If they want to see a transformation, how about Eddie Murphy in "Norbit?" Silly movie but the make up and his transformation into a fat woman, a Chinese man and a nerd were memorable.
What a great movie, record winner of the Razzies.
"But last year’s Oscar® loser Eddie Murphy managed to steal Lohan’s thunder by garnering himself a record-setting FIVE nominations in a single year. The Latex-laden, nearly laugh-free “comedy” NORBIT, in which Murphy plays three distinct (and decidedly stinky) characters “won” Eddie a chance to take home trophies for Worst Supporting Actor (as the Asian character Mr. Wong) Worst Supporting Actress (as the hideous 400 pound harpy Rasputia) and Worst Actor (as the title character) as well as having Murphy compete alongside himself for Worst Screen Couple."
