Fun Things To Do On Valentine's Day

Wednesday, February 13, 2008

Can you feel the love? Mayor Cory Booker is getting all romantic on us...urging couples to come down to Newark and tie the knot on Valentine's Day. Newark Municipal Court will be scheduling as many weddings and civil unions as possible tomorrow, noon - 4 pm.

As part of the city's annual tradition, Booker's decree will light a candle under judges and staff to expedite up to 125 wedding and civil union ceremonies, and provide willing couples with a photo op under the Court’s wedding trellis.

Make your reservation and marriage license applications pronto. (973) 733-8095.

OK, so you've been there, done that (or you're not quite ready). What've you got planned for Valentine's Day?

That's what swans do right before they tear each other's eyes out.

(ROC, I've read your post 10 times and laughed harder each time!)

"...urging couples to come down to Newark and tie the knot on Valentine's Day. "

If one needs to be urged to get married, it's probably a bad idea to go through with it.

Personally, I can't think of a worse (crazier?) day to tie the knot (unless you're getting married atop the Empire State Building!)

"If one needs to be urged to get married, it's probably a bad idea to go through with it."

It's the "Newark" part which requires urging.

Women don't want to get married on Valentine's Day, because they lose out on a gift. Their Anniversary & Valentines on the same day?

I don't think so.

Romantic, yes. Real World, No.

We are at our 24th year of marriage. Tied the knot in March.

It's restaurant's busy night, tomorrow!-

Speaking of fun things to do on VD...DON'T GO TO A RESTAURANT! Seriously-it's amateur night.

I hate when restaurants change their menu on VD! News flash: The reason we're going there is because we like the way things are. If it ain't broken, don't fix it.

"Amateur night" is, rather, New Year's Eve. Particularly if one is 30 or below and lives with roommates in Hoboken. (Even figuratively.)

Well seeing that i have the most romantic boyfriend who proposed to me on groundhogs day...(yup, thats right, not valentines day, but Groundhogs day - great movie) i am sitting home admiring my ring while he will be working(chef who is cooking for you that are dining out!)
however, ftd seemed to think today was V-day and I got my flowers early - either that or they were trying to predict tomorrows weather? ahh well....=)

Will Mayor Booker validate parking?

We're going to pick up a bottler of wine at Amante Vino and then check out the all chocolate menu at Church Street Kitchen.

We're having a fondue picnic in my man's living room.

If I'd known about the all-chocolate menu someone else mentioned, we might have gone for that, though--yum!

Drink lots of red wine and go out to dinner. Two of my favorite things. No swans, no chocolate.

Amateur night is when you are over 30 and keep moving back in with your parents whenever you're kicked to the curb.

I'm watching 'Prime Suspect' tonight. My wife is in Florida so I'll content myself with the ever so interesting and sexy Helen Mirren.

Ohhh! Beautiful grilled chicken on a Cesar salad, nice bottle of Sancerre, chocolate covered strawberries, some 12-year old McCallan, and three extra frikkin' aspirins this morning 'cuz it is a work day... humbug.

We ate at Sonny's on the Avenue in Verona. Second time there, awesome food each time. However, this time, someone held us at gunpoint and forced us to finish a HUGE piece of carrot cake for dessert. We protested, "No dessert, PLEASE spare us!" but it was all in vain.
