It may not be the Sistine Chapel, but the gigantic cookie mural that graces the new Gimmee Jimmy's in Livingston had to be painted by somebody, and that somebody turns out to be old Baristanet pal Frank Gerard Godlewski.
FrankGG came to the rescue when the Church Street cookie purveyor decided to expand to Livingston, but couldn't secure the services of the Israeli muralist who painted the original cookie mural in Montclair. So the job fell to Frank GG, who trained at Cooper Union and who has restored murals in Italy. Frank is an associate with SmithMaran architects, which designed the Church Street store.
The Livingston Gimmee Jimmy's, located at 2110 Town Center Way in Livingston, has just opened. And here's the finished wall of cookies!

"FrankGG came to the rescue"
I guess he wasn't paid for his efforts!
"Frank is an associate with SmithMaran architects, which designed the Church Street store."
Which witch was it who designed the Church Street store?
Ahhh, long before the Chursh street store Gimmie Jimmy's spent more than a decade on South Valley Road in West Orange. Are we forgetting that ? I was eating their cookies back in 1982 !
i wasn't here in new jersey till 1988, so i missed that. but they are good cookies!
Obviously, Belletones, the "which" refers to the architects, since the verb is plural. I'm sure that was just a temporary lapse on your part, probably just a minor stroke.
As to coming to the rescue: relax. This is a local rag, not the New York Times.
Yes, I've paid people to do things for me, and still felt as if they came to my rescue. Sometimes, the payment is secondary. It's the act of someone stepping in, maybe rearranging their schedule and filling that need.
I did not mean "rag" as a pejorative. Ahem.
Rag, fish wrap, it's all cool...
I thought it was all supposed to be "citizen, participatory journalism," Liz. Thus apparently often free from the bother of such mundane issues as fact-checking or even newsworthiness.
Free from bother -- that ain't never gonna happen.
The Grammar Police are part and parcel of the Baristanet experience. Even when they are wrong, they are still the police.
I've noticed you've dropped the "grammarian" part of your moniker, Conan. Perhaps because you no longer feel the need to define yourself in the eyes of your Baristanet audience?
Just took too damn long to type (including Spell Czech). And since Conan is a family name (although not mine), I figured y'all would know me by now.
When I bought a new car, a few days after I took delivery a most unusual shipping box was delivered to me. I thought it odd, as I did not recall ordering anything. Upon opening the box (it was pretty large) out flew a big balloon with Thank You all over it, and under the balloon was a 2 pound box of Gimmie Jimmie's Cookies, with an attached card telling me that it was a gift from the entire dealership. There also was a card telling me all of the ingrediants used, in case of any allergies and a signature card telling me they were certified Kosher. It was really nice and of course, after that I went back to purchase more cookies.
I got hooked.
Terrific Cookies, nice good people. I wish them well, always.
Well Frank, make Sandro Botticelli proud! Apply a little Renaissance flair to the those chocolate chips!
Grazie Mojoe...There is a lot of "false perspective play" going on with those cookies for some Renaissance expressionism sake - but I tried, as much as possible, to work in the hand of Yaariv, the painter who did the Church Street cookie mural. My biggest problem however, was to try not to eat too many cookies...Buonissimi!!!!
