Jewel Box House For Sale

Monday, March 24, 2008

If you're in the market for a first home, or want to scale down to something small and sweet, a Park Terrace colonial, featured in the New York Times real estate section this weekend, is for sale for $579,000 by owner. One of the owners is the lovely Lauren Mattia, who graced a number of our Baristanet videos. Lauren's home is just as lovely -- check it out here and here.

First home? @ $579?

Sometimes i get the feeling I don't make enough money to frequent this website.

Seriously. Although maybe you could, as long as you get one of those no downpayment, flexible rate mortgages that I've heard so many lovely things about.

Is this a paid commercial? Ugh

$579,000 for a house with one bathroom? GMAB!

You think she paid the New York Times.

I'm seeing a lot more FSBO offerings these days. Are these homes actually selling, or are they just making the attempt to bypass the MLS and save $ and, in the end, having little luck? Seems to me FSBO has little exposure to the tried-and-true MLS market which is what you pay that commission for ...

Jim -

I bought in December -- anything that comes on the market in UM for under 600k that's in good shape etc. goes fast whether it's shown by a broker or not. There are very very few listings in that price range even in this market. If I were going to sell I'd probably try FSBO too.

$579k for a starter home? Oy.

well, i'm no expert--but that house is beautifully finished. those look to my (admittedly) untrained eye like expensive upgrades, etc. and i'm sure that would have to figure into the price.
and frankly, as someone who has lived through two kitchen makeovers, various floor sandings, massive new window installations and more, if the seller has done a great job and used top quality materials, the price is worth it. i dream of move-in perfection!
i'd be interested in the educated opinion of professional home restorers and carpenters on this subject.

Talk about shameless self promotion. Since when did this site turn out free advertising? C'mon people. Let's stick to the editorials, eh?

Lauren's great but oh my, it really does seem like a lot of money for the house. it's not that nice from outside, i'm afraid and it's small! As for the interior done with a "strong sense of style," that could be good or bad. in jersey it's generally bad since people don't have much taste here. that said, the above photo looks acceptable.
