Montclair Cops & Robbers

Wednesday, March 26, 2008

Montclair Police report an armed robbery and rounding up suspects for prior offenses:

Early Monday morning, a couple was held up at gunpoint at the Exxon Station on Bloomfield Avenue. The robber got away with cash and cell phones belonging to both of the victims.

Watchung Vandals: Police charged two teens, ages 16 15 and 13, with criminal mischief in connection with recent vandalism of Watchung Train Station. The 15-year-old, a freshman at Montclair High, was arrested and handcuffed at the school last Wednesday. The other boy, from Glen Ridge, turned himself in later that night.

Accused of Bank Robbery: A suspect in the March 13 heist of Montclair's Commerce Bank has been arrested and charged with armed robbery and possession of stolen property. Yousif Iguenarane, 22, of Roxbury, is being held in Morristown. He was stopped by police while driving his 1990 Buick in Roxbury. Iguenarane's bail was set at $25,000, according to Lt. James Carlucci, at Montclair PD. A judge also set a bail of $500,000 upon learning the suspect, a Saudi Arabian national, has a first-degree armed robbery charge pending in New York, and is wanted by federal immigration authorities. More details, from The Star Ledger.

A 16-year-old freshman? That tells us plenty.

Um, the Star-Ledger link is NG. Please fix.

Oops the Star-Ledger calls him a 15-year-old ninth grader.

Either way, he's not too old or too young to be punished (assuming he did it).

Even so, 15 year old frosh. That's too old.

Yousif - you're f%cked.

Where is Maple?

"Early Monday morning, a couple was held up at gunpoint at the Exxon Station..."

Interesting: I just got held up at an Exxon Station, too: almost $3.50 for a gallon of high-octane. Agreed, there weren't any guns involved, but it still seems like grand larceny to me...

There are two gas stations in Montclair. I'm oblivious to brands since I don't own a car. One is at the corner of Bloomfield Avenue and Elm. Elm turns into Grove on the other side of The Avenue. The other gas station is on the corner of Bloomfield Avenue and Pine. Pine turns into Maple on the other side of The Avenue.

Technically speaking, there is no gas station on the corner of Maple and Bloomfield Avenue in Montclair.

It's not too old if his birthday missed Montclair's October 1 cut-off. Maybe he was 14 when the school year began. Maybe he just turned 15 and wrecking the train station was how he celebrated.

"The 15-year-old, a freshman at Montclair High, was arrested and handcuffed at the school last Wednesday."

Either that sends a strong message to the other students, or just gave this kid a ton of street cred.

(Typically, students turn 15 by the end of Freshman year, and 18 by the end of Senior year.)

Street Cred? When I was growing up in the mean streets of Glen Ridge, if you got caught, you were an idiot

1. it was in montclair.

2. for all that assume that 15 year old did it, it states that the actual offender conffessed, so why assume that the 15 year old did it? please learn to read better

sorry for posting several times, must be some kind of error or something

Posted by that guy | March 26, 2008 10:12 PM

Dear that guy, there were TWO offenders in the Watchung train station vandalism case. One was from Glen Ridge and the other was from Montclair.

I still wish the Baristas would correct the location of the gas station in this post but it's left to ferment in its erroneousness.

Nope, still not right. The Exxon station is not at the corner of Pine. Go back two spaces. It's at the corner of Elm and Bloomfield Avenue across from Pathmark. Cheezus! A simple Google search brings this up even if you're not familiar with the town.
