NJ Transit recently tied the knot with Google to to provide online trip planning via "Google Transit." It's a match made in heaven for the two giants... you'll find trip times and transfer info for 164 rail stations and 60 light rail stations. One tipster who's tried it writes:
If you give it two addresses it starts with the amount of time it takes to walk to the nearest train station (important in Montclair), the trains you need to take to get to your destination, and walking time after you arrive. You can even specify the time you want to arrive by, and it tells you when to leave. Click here for directions getting to Montclair Art Museum from Hoboken.
A bonus feature, NJ Transit's website connects to Google Maps for each rail and light rail station, so you can locate the nearest bagel shop or brewski shop at your destination before arriving.

this is actually great. I used it this morning and it saved me a cab ride. the nice part is that it gives you directions on one way streets that you would otherwise have to drive around the block to access, but by foot.... technology meets logic!
In other news:
DeCamp just announced a similar deal with wehateyou.com (sorry, rushing and couldn't think of anything funnier).
You type in where you want to go and it gives you the finger.
Just kidding, it brings you to its easy to read bus schedule....
We've been paying attention to what Google Transit is up to...and this looks like more good work. Based on the 2 quick tests I did, it's quite accurate.
FWIW, beside the "easy" stuff of reading the trip durations from NJT, they also correctly predicted the walk times (here in Montclair) as well as in NYC. For a commuter...those are crucial!
Nice!
Way cool.
A little hard to find from the NJ Transit web site.
And it needs tools to give flexibility mid-route -- Seacaucus Junction or the light rail from Broad Street to Penn Station.
