Set Your Clocks Tonight!

Saturday, March 8, 2008

You know the drill: Spring Forward! Of course, if Daylight Savings Times seems to be coming a little earlier than usual, it is. Up until last year, it was always the first weekend in April.

The American Public Health Association says we should be doing more that just resetting the dials today. And if you want to explain it to your kids and need a refresher, read this.

Argh -- and good luck scheduling phone calls with Europe where the clocks don't spring forward until March 29.

Thanks dub-ya. Yes, I blame the president for shifting the daylight savings calendar.

Overthinking,

Is the math so difficult with the "scheduling" of phone calls "with Europe"?

If so, move to Arizona and Hawaii where "dub-ya's" evil handy work was stopped by state law as they do not follow DST.

Yesss, this extra hour of daylight is exciting for us "wake up after 11am" types. Especially on the weekends when we wake up at 2pm - 3 hours of daylight does not = a good mood.

Hey prof...

It ain't that easy. Not every area is on the same clock and it really IS a pain in the ass when we decide to shift. The shift occurs in different countries or sections of countries at different times.

Hey, overthinking, try THIS!

Damn...I thought it was only 3am, but now I realize it's not!

Dumb question: How come my computer didn't set itself? In the past, that has happened. I wonder if something's screwed up internally.

If you have to work with Europe on a regular basis, this does make it difficult. The window of communication is now one hour shorter. And Europeans are not known for their love of overtime.

I think a lot of people forgot to set their clocks. Costco is usually a zoo at opening time on Sundays, but today it was relatively empty. And the Shoprite in West Caldwell was better than usual, but I was half asleep so maybe I dreamed that part.

Probably because it's too old. Remember, Congress is screwing with our clocks AGAIN & this is the first year DST has come this early.

We used to change our clocks on the first Sunday in April; that started in 1986. From 1966 to 1985 it was the last April Sunday. Before that it was a free-for-all. As usual, Congress can't leave well enough alone, keeps on extending the nanny state & takes all the fun out of everything.

Anyway, just be a little patient & your computer will catch up. :=)

Here is everything you ever wanted to know about DST, including a study that shows that this extra 3 weeks won't save us any energy.

And if that gets too boring, click here. You'll love it. Guaranteed.

Thanks, Crank...that makes sense. I just changed it myself.

Don't miss clicking the last link I posted above - it's dog-related!

Miss Martta

And in a couple of weeks, your computer will change the time its self as crank said

"just be a little patient & your computer will catch up. :=)"

Its how the thing was programed.

That was funny crank. Thanks

BTW anyone know how I can get my VCR to start blinking "1:00" now that
Daylight Savings Time is here?

Find an 8 year old. He'll know what to do.

I would just like to add my thanks to the Congress for making us change the clocks on the day before my kid takes the NJ ASK. The school actually sent home a note saying to put the kids to bed an hour early so they are well rested. Please! I'll bet he actually laid there tossing for an hour *longer* than usual, since at 8:30 bedtime it was really 7:30 body-clock time. And we woke up at what seemed like an unholy hour this morning, to utter darkness.

Economic stimulus/energy savings, my Eye! All they did was ruin Halloween (no moving back til Nov., right?) and make me more tired earlier in the year. Thanks a Bunch, Gov!

Wow Kay, that's crazy! We sent the kids to bed early but they didn't fall asleep until the usual time and they were a MESS this morning. I can't imagine giving kids a test today, of all days.

I recall the guy who runs my kids daycare saying today is the second worst day as far as kids behavior. Halloween is the first.

You're over reacting, Kay, and I know because it's one of my favorite past-times. Who the hells cares what your kid gets on NJ ASK. Life is too short for worrying about that crap. Screw'em. So the kid is tired for a day, big deal. Give the tykes an ice cream sandwich after dinner, and have one yourself. Wash it down with MacCallan's, or perhaps some rum from the islands. As the Jews say, l'chaim!

Oh poor, dear 'Roo, you must have gotten a regular old 'proficient' on these exams instead of 'advanced proficient'. I am sorry for your obvious pain. However, my kid better come up with some good scores or hubby will quit believing my story that Sonny is indeed smart, if just a bit scattered. And if the Prez and our venerable BOE have messed up my baby's opportunity for a 90 or better because of this useless early time change, then I will be writing a nasty-gram to both of them. (yes I know it won't do any good but it will make me feel better.)
