Talk About Your Scary Commutes

I do believe someone died due to the same exact incident a few years ago?
anyone confirm? I heard that a commute fell onto watchung ave and was run over by a vehicle and died.

let's not forget the poor women last year who fell between the gap at Newark Broad St. station. She only broke her leg, and delayed the train for over an hour.

Glad to hear no one was hurt last night. let us know what NJ Transit says in reply to your complaint.

Several years ago (2001, I believe) a man fell from a train that overshot the Watchung Station (sound similar to what happened this past Tuesday). He was hurt, badly, but is alive and well. Shocking that this can happen AGAIN.

Soon passengers will have the option of falling off the trestle on weekends.

I 1-2 years ago, when the (same train) was pulling into Watsessing Avenue Station and slowing down, it never stopped!

I heard a woman jump off the Train and fell on her Stomach. (It was a huge Thump).

This could solve the current flap surrounding the train whistles. Instead of loud horn blowing, the screams of falling commuters could alert drivers and pedestrians alike that there is a train a-coming.

If this is going to work logistically, we'll need to make sure there is a screaming commuter at each stop. If we give them bullhorns to project their screams - the screams could serve as a warning to the next stop's drivers and peds.

Rumor has it he's vowed never to step foot on a NJ transit train again. Will only ride on DeCamp. Not worth the risk.

I was on the 807 from MSU to watchung and I was in a front car with another girl and we went to get off and there was this big ol tree right in front of us, and the conductor said it is the new rules, something about them having to pull up farther and that there has been nj transit authorities (dont quote me on the train lingo) at the stops since this week, making sure they are abiding this rule... pretty stupid if you ask me (and the conductor thought so too)

Silly NJ Transit. If they need to pull up further, they need to make an announcement on the train that passengers must move back however many cars to exit. They also must NOT open those doors that overshoot the station. I've ridden MetroNorth for years and this happens very often. The conductor will take your ticket and tell you directly that the doors won't open at your destination station and you need to move down.

I wrote to them once about the backwards bus shelters in Montclair. They had the audacity to say that was done to prevent people from rushing out into the streets!

It would be tragically ironic if someone fell off the train at that station and was then run over by a DeCamp bus. Perhaps my 400-lb. attorney (who recently was re-admitted to the bar after serving his full sentence) could put both organizations in the poor house.

so I asked the chick conductor on the 4:52 and this is what she said (I wrote it down too so I wouldn't forget). A local montclair person complained to NJ Transit citing that debris had falled on his or her car from the bridge. Because of this, NJ Transit has said that when the train is at the Watchung Ave Station, it cannot be on the Tressel/Bridge. She said call customer service and issue a complaint because she thought it was pretty stupid to have to do this for one persons car - that did not get damaged by this so-called debris.

I know that conductor.. couple weekends ago, she rushed to the back of the train to stop a college student from peeing in one of the back cars... as she was carrying him back to his drunk friends, she looked at me and said" I have to hold him up cuz I am afraid he is going to falled down"

i was on the train with that conductor today and she seemed like she was on drugs. she acted like she was on crack cocaine.

This all sounds like perfect fodder for one of the local TV news shows "shame" segment. The reporter could hound the conductor or the NJT executive with some pointed questions. "Aren't you afraid people will be falling off the bridges to their death?"
