A 15-year-old North Caldwell boy has been arrested in connection with several graffiti threats found at West Essex Regional High School, which triggered a three-hour lockdown of the school on March 11. An array of weapons were also seized from the boy's house.
Essex County Prosecutor Paula Dow, Sheriff Armando Fontoura, surrounded members by the North Caldwell police department, spoke about the case to the press in North Caldwell today. Law enforcement officials with search warrants found pellet guns and Airsoft rifles, along with a variety of ammunition types, when they searched the suspect's house last Thursday.
Although she would not disclose the exact nature or wording of the threats, Dow said the cache of weapons have led the prosecutor's office to believe that the threat against the high school was serious.
Dow said that the police response to the threats have cost taxpayers $60,000 so far.
Sheriff Fontoura urged parents to "maintain your vigil" of their children, and told them that concerns about children's privacy were misplaced. "Do not be afraid to go into their room," Fontoura said. "You have every right to walk into their room."

Please bill the parent the $6,000! It's their fee for not raising their offspring properly, or seeing to it that he got the mental health help he so needs, to live within the human race.
