If you want to load up your front lawn with campaign signs, it's your business right? Wrong. The Montclair Times reminds us today that folks in Montclair sporting these kinds of signs are (say it with me now) flagrant lawbreakers.

According to a signage zoning ordinance of the municipal zoning code, it's way too early to start showing your political passions. Sixty days prior to election day is when you are allowed to tell all your neighbors who you are voting for. The penalty for such impudence? Fines and even incarceration. Some residents, including many vocal Montclair Watercooler members, think the law bites (OK, my words, not theirs) and that it's a violation of First Amendment rights. Maybe we can get a variance for our political signs. Tell us what you think...
P.S. The article says warnings are on hold until general council can confirm whether or not our constitutional rights are being violated, so feel free to load up your lawns for now.

I have no problem with people voicing their opinions on their own lawns. It's the roadside litter left behind after every political campaign that bothers me.
