Baristaville To Rally For Darfur

Friday, April 11, 2008

We don't have the Olympic torch stopping in Baristaville, but hundreds of people are expected to carry their own torch protesting the genocide in Darfur at a walk and rally this Sunday beginning at Montclair High, ending at the First Congregational Church, 40 South Fullerton Avenue. Gloria Crist, of Montclair, has organized the day's events with Essex County Coalition for Darfur.

Sponsored by Montclair High and MSU students, the one-mile walk begins at 2pm, led by Team Darfur, Olympic athletes raising funds and awareness about the humanitarian crisis. Doug Lennox, a member of the US Olympic and Princeton swim teams, will join them. Governor Corzine and Senator Robert Menendez are expected to speak at the 3 pm rally.

It's very important to speak out against genocide. Otherwise somebody might think you're for it!

...."think globally, act locally"...that was a blurb from my days working at Liz Cliaborne-corporate marketing dept--can apply here. Pick up garbage off the street, plant something, work with the handicapped, assist the elderly...hey--why not buy that homeless man that walks on Walnut street some food one day-? These things might make more of an impact..I think...but then my opinion on this board is..not the POOP-ular one, I must say...

Seems like this Montclair "cause du jour" has lasted quite a long while now. I'm impressed.

buy the homeless man some food and he'll be sure to be there the next day, and the next after that....

ackme, it's the fifth anniversary of the crisis in Darfur. It's STILL going on.

You miss my point Spot - typically the community has ADD about causes. You rarely hear about them for a significant period of time.
