This morning, NJ.com ran an AP story about how NJ drivers can save some dough by hopping on the Turnpike or Parkway in order to snag fuel at a cheaper price. Obviously you need to figure out whether the toll hit that you'll probably (definitely, if it's the Turnpike) take which could drive the price over the top anyway, but people do seem to be taking advantage of this, or at least are thinking about it when they're already on those toll roads.
This past weekend, I drove down to Virginia, and was on the Turnpike from the Delaware Memorial Bridge all the way up to the Lincoln Tunnel exit, and most of the rest stops had double, if not triple, the lines they usually have for gas, from what I've seen. On Friday evening, I stopped in the realm of Exit 8 on the Southbound side, and waited 25 minutes to reach a pump, and on Sunday night one of the NB rest stops towards the southern end of the state had a line of cars that actually stretched onto the exit's entrance on the roadway itself.
All in all, though, this can't be a bad strategy, especially if you're anywhere near a location that allows you to hop on or off the Parkway with zero tolls or maybe a $.25 one. Anyone else taking part in this activity, or is it just something else to think about and we're all sucking it up and just going to the station(s) we normally do?

Sneak in the back entrance of the GSP Brookdale (Southbound) Service area on Broad St. between Bellevue Ave and W Passaic Ave. I generally use this back door to get on the GSP.
