Montclair Man Sentenced For Shooting Plot

Friday, April 4, 2008

Christopher Greene of Montclair, who planned a shooting spree from atop a highway overpass in Brattleboro, Vermont and was plotting his mother's murder was sentenced to time served and three years of supervised release. Greene was arrested three years ago after his mother found an assault weapon in her apartment, and turned him in to Montclair PD.

Associated Press reports Kathleen Greene said her son had a history of mental illness.

I'm a little creeped out... I think I knew this guy back in the 80s. There was a Chris Greene from NJ (I forget what town) in an internship program up in Worcester, MA, and I know he liked Vermont and headed up there on occasion. The age is spot on, too. Could be a coincidence, but... ::boggle:: If it is the same guy, let's just say I'm not shocked by the above report.

...very creeped out! Very sad and horrifying....they were my mother's next door neighbors...how sad and horrible for Mrs. Greene. Her son was always very polite but seemed quite preoccupied and medicated.

It's kind of scary how slowly the wheels of justice turn. 3 years between arrest and the sentencing? Yikes!

assault weapon

I've always found that phrase to be incredibly redundant. If they also found a riot shield, would it be labeled as a "defense weapon?"

So they unleashed the crazy with 3 years time served? How much therapy and treatment has he recieved? Perhaps a good old fashioned lobotomy was performed?
Good plan. Hope that supervision is 24/7 or his mom has been relocated in witness protection.

I knew this guy by sight. In the months before his arrest, he would spent hours at the outdoor tables at the Bloomfield Ave. Starbucks, smoking & furiously writing in notebooks.

On a different note, I must say that it does my heart good to see cathar, via one of the links above, complaining of slow news days in July 2005: a refreshing constancy in this uncertain world.

I in turn, crank, think the real constancy here is how often an attempt is made to turn something into nothing, in that elusive, impress-advertisers search for "hits." Such is the way of a site committed to daily updating, no matter how little actually occurs on any given day. This is why the upcoming election will surely prove such a Godsend.

What does the item above really offer, for example? It doesn't even offer a hint as to where Greene is/was headed upon his release, a la Frank Miller to Hadleyburg in "High Noon.". (To link up with lasermikey?)

Well, if Greene shows up back at Starbucks' sidewalk tables this spring, at least I'll have some place to post about it.

If he does turn up at Starbucks, crank, I hope he causes no one any harm or trouble. And buys a round for all present.

Perhaps you could even charm him to sleep by reading him some of laserlad's more contentious, totalitarianism-themed posts.
