Partnership Montclair, The Movie(s)

Thursday, April 3, 2008

OK, so it's not quite as catchy as "Yes We Can," but Partnership Montclair has gone viral with YouTube videos of participants on the slate. Here's Peter Zorich.

For some reason, they've disabled the embedding feature. More of the slate here. Phil Read has the story behind the making of the videos here.

Sweet Lord these are bad.

Who shot this stuff? Any middle schooler could have done a better job.

C'mon, white walls and they sound like they're in an echo chamber... Or was it shot on a cellphone....

No wonder they disabled embedding, they really don't want anyone to see it.

I thought it was nice to be able to hear from the candidates. All the candidates should do it.

But, what I really want to hear is Joyce Michaelson explain why she voted to sell that school for $1,000,000 back in the late 80s.

No that we are building a new school for $30,000,000, would she agree that she was a large part of the biggest fiscal mistake of our town's history?

What's next? Joyce Boy along the lines of Obama Girl?

"No that we are building a new school for $30,000,000, would she agree that she was a large part of the biggest fiscal mistake of our town's history?"

For or against the new school, the costs are more than $30M. $35M construction costs, $5M to acquire land, demo costs which increased due to "unexpected" asbestos. And don't forget the costs to renovate falling apart Rand to accomodate middle school kids. Any guesses on what that might cost?

Does that Murnick guy have a top on his head? In any picture?? and why didn't david Cummings bother to shave.

How much did these people spend on this tripe?

IF THIS IS AN EXAMPLE OF WHAT THEY'LL BE SPENDING OUR MONEY ON I'LL BE VOTING FOR THE UNITY SLATE.

"It is pretty cool," said Robin Schlager, who as an at-large candidate on the slate, had yet to record her own segment. "All our kids are on YouTube."

Hey, I think y'all forgotnwho your audience is. The kids aren't voters we are.

I don't want a mayor and Town Council who spend money in order to be cool, loo cool, or so that we think they are cool.

IT'S NOT COOL!

Montclair.mommy, All caps to tell us something that is already obvious from every other of your posts.

Anyway, while I'm obviously not a Joyce fan, just read my posts;-), it doesn't cost much to record yourself on a videocam and post it on youtube, if you already own the camera and computer, the cost is actually $0.

Posted by Jon Doh | April 3, 2008 12:15 PM

But we all know that Joyce went out and bought the best in order to film herself. Are you saying that she held the camera herself?

Posted by Montclair.Mommy | April 3, 2008 12:21 PM

You know what? I'll give you that!

Vote anyone but Joyce! Please!

I like the idea that they did a low budget version. I think it shows that they can keep costs down.
Just a thought.

It doesn't cost anything to focus the camera.

Posted by complainerpuss | April 3, 2008 2:15 PM

Use the "auto-focus" mode on the camera.
Just a thought.

Quick correction. My apologies to whoever did the camerawork. I am now just being told that Joyce Michaelson is in real life actually out-of-focus. My bad.

I like it more now that puss complained about it.

Nice idea with YouTube. Now I want to make my own movie :-)

No really, looking at the website I read quite a bit of rhetoric like 'restoring accountability' but then the idea seems to be to create an 'Office of Management and Budget, reporting to the Mayor', which seems to me as just another vehicle for diluting named accountability.

Simple concrete steps to establish accountability like making the School board member elected positions and establishing budget controls like it is being done in other school districts seems to be out-of-scope.

I just hope that if Joyce has anything to do with Glenfield's "classroom of the future" or whatever it's called that she has NOTHING to do with the budgeting or the purchase of or the handling of any video equipment. I don't want to pile on but I would be very impressed if somebody could tell me (especially if it was her) ONE positive thing she has done for this town. One concrete thing. One positive thing. One thing we all can point at with pride and say she did. I would ask the same of Remsen et al.
