View To A Pie

Friday, April 18, 2008

Sure, we knew it was coming, but having been teased and taunted by posters of pies and baked delicacies for months while driving along Watchung Avenue, we're thrilled to announce that The Pie Shop, London Food Company's new outpost, located in the old "Daily Soup" digs, is about to turn up the heat.

Opening at the end of April, expect the aroma of a whole lot of pies - traditional savory and sweet (how does steal steak & mushroom, blackberry & apple sound?), salads, curries and other delicacies from across the pond, like those funny little scotch eggs. The menu will be strictly take out for lunch and dinner; owner Samantha hopes to build a custom meal and catering business as well.

Will cut back on the trips to NYC for Myers of Keswick at Greenwich Street for the tins and such, but nobody will beat Pete Myers' meat pies and Cumberland pork sausage.

Mmmmmmm, pie!

Posted by Amandala | April 18, 2008 1:48 PM

(cro, I'm sure you can beat Pete Myers' meat.)

Great News!! Samantha does a great job with savory pies at London Food Company, so this should be a welcome addition. BTW croiagusanam...I think LFC has Cumberland sausage. Might want to check it out...

(Jeez, sorry all. With the new Baristanet policy against offensive comments, I hope we're still allowed to engage in "masterbatory" jokes... Like so many of the posts are here... Mine included.)

prof, offensive is OK with me as long as its funny.
But I'm afraid your comment is neither offensive, nor is it funny.
But it does shed yet more light on the "workings" of the professorial mind.

(cro, t's a amazing how you can type and beat Pete Myers' meat at the same time. Amazing.)

And with your evaluation of "funny" and all, I'm sure a Friars Club membership is forthcoming. Regardless, I hope you have an enjoyable weekend.

I still miss Daily Soup. They always had a good selection and included vegetarian and selections that contained no dairy products.

You have a nice weekend too, prof.
Pete and I will be thinking of you.

how can u have any pudding if you don't beat your meat?

Posted by Iceman | April 18, 2008 3:11 PM

I might be wrong, but you can't have any pudding if you don't beat your meat.

you might be wrong? You ARE wrong

It's a Pink Floyd reference. (Although the lines are reversed and edited to my liking.) Get some culture, kid.

Good luck with convincing many Americans that pie can be more than a fruit.

I knew Pete Myers when he was a mere barkeep on 13th St.

He then opened Myers of Keswick virtually around the corner from our apartment. Ah those halcyon days.

crank, I'm sure I tripped over you a time or two at the ol' Bells of Hell.

Posted by croiagusanam | April 20, 2008 12:39 PM

Heh, no doubt about it.

The first time I walked into that place & saw the "Keswick Mountain Rescue Team" collection jar on the bar, I did a serious double-take since I'd already spent a good deal of vacation time in Keswick. I never really got to know Pete well but we had some chats.

When I went back to the Lake District in '78, Pete gave me a list of his friends to look up - no addresses or phone #s, just names & the pubs they favored. It was great fun tracking them down; not to mention hearing the vile aspersions they cast on his character, knowing that he was 3000 miles away!

Are they open yet?

Posted by jason | May 14, 2008 11:02 AM

Yup. I got a steak, ale, and mushroom pie there yesterday!
